Sorry if my last post lacked clarity.
I was continuing the discussion about the Beaufighter and the possible installation of a rear gun in the observer position.
- RAF_Magpie - 22.12.2007
Yes - I know...
Quote:May I offer that Instead of calling it a "cheat", can we call it a sub - version of the Beaufighter
we all know we have a stack of different version of the Zero, Me-109, Spitfires etc that are differently armed, but in principle the same version of the airplane
To add a new aircraft, or subvarient of another, you must replace one of the aircraft in the slots, for example, the Typhoon replaces the Tempest etc...
At this current point in time, we cannot have new aircraft just 'slotted in' - but they must REPLACE one of the aircraft.
- Bidule021 - 22.12.2007
I was not suggesting to replace any airplane with a sub-varient of the Beaufighter, just add a rear gun to the one we have in the game. People will be able to chose the variant they want by instaling the download or not.
I was merely stating that we have several sub-varient available as a point supporting different version of an airplane available. If this is impossible to add a new plane to the plane list then so be it.
- RAF_Magpie - 22.12.2007
Well as I said - to have a sub varient added - it must
REPLACE a plane in the list.
If we were to just have a rear gun added - where there isnt one... imagine the problems if encountered online...
In addition to this - if a gun is to be added - it must be visible from the outside... on the 3d model.
Its a pity because it
should be added. Just, not possible with the current situation I suppose.

sorry to say guys its a no no regarding adding a rear gunner to the beu
i tried as soon as i knew how to. there may be a way but i dont think so - there is no gun for you to link a position to. sorry
- ojcar - 23.12.2007
And if changing the payload of a plane is a no no in this site, the same is for adding a gunner (it's adding a weapon)

adding a gunner for the IL-2 field mod?
- VT-51_Razor - 23.12.2007
I don't think MrJolly meant "no no" as in a morality issue. I think he was saying that, because there is no gunner position there to begin with (in the game, that is) then there is nothing to link the gunner/turret position that he would put in there.
- ROSOBORONEXPORTCORP - 23.12.2007
There were something like six version of the Beaufighter in development for Il2 and only one of them made it in. Not all Beaufighter variants had a turret.
- Trooper117 - 23.12.2007
Only one Beaufighter variant had a true turret.. This was an experimental version and was never put into production.. Most variants however had an observers cupola with a .303 Vickers K MG mounted on a pintle for rear protection.. On some variants they were simply not mounted all of the time..
- Bidule021 - 23.12.2007
Thank you Mr Jolly for the reply. That clarify the issue
Unfortunate that the game will not allow the placement of a rear gunner or even an observer in the Beaufighter.
How about fixing the adjustable seat for the Hellcats and the Seafires?
- FANATIC MODDER - 23.12.2007
Still I don't think is a problem to add an observer view with no gun like I suggested for the Ki-46. In any case using a single 0.303 gun was not very effective.
- Trooper117 - 23.12.2007
lol.. I've fired several hundred rounds with a .303 MG.. I would think your opinion would change somewhat if you were on the recieving end..
- RAF_Magpie - 23.12.2007
Absolutly Mr Trooper - I've used a .303 hunting - and they aint no pissy little gun!
- VT-51_Razor - 23.12.2007
To get back to Mr Bidule's question about the seats for the Hellcat and Seafire, is that possible? Is the adjustable seat position connected to the cockpit? In other words, if the Wildcat's cockpit were used in another plane, would the adjustable seat follow along? Is it possible to modify any a/c to allow a vertically adjustable seat?
There's no question that every one of the Navy carrier planes had vertically adjustable seats. I can't believe that Oleg didn't include them for the Hellcat and Dauntless. I can't speak for the Seafire, but it certainly should have had one!
