If, in fact, you're able to put vetically adjustable seats in ANY plane, then all of the US Navy carrier planes should have them, as they did in real life!

With 6DOF mod for mouse you can see over the nose easily, that's what I do...

I forgot this on my first list

A manual lowering gear for the Hellcat as well as an airbrake feature for the F6F-5 like its done for the Corsair with its landing gear

as for the rear gunner in the beaufighter, it is a real fact that is well documented in severals books and internet site. I would at least give a little chance from the rear attacker...

Is it possible to add one though? If so hell bloody yes. The amount of times I wish I had some kind of sting in my tail is enormous. Not sure what could be used as the gunner though? A20C?

Are any of these historically accurate?

While its true that some marks of Beaufighter did have a gunner, the Mk. 21 as we have in the game didnt have one. I think the Mk.X was the only one that had a turret.

Addition of gunner in Mk.21 Beaufighter without a marked difference in flight performance would seem well, a bit sketchy :?

Adding a gunner is the same as mod the weaponry, FM and DM.

Having gone through this discussion several times, I'll bring it up here.. 3 or 4 years ago I was at Duxford and got talking to an old Aussie flyer who was viewing the Beaufighter under restoration, a Mk21 no less.. We had a brief chat for 5 mins or so, but he left me in no doubt that the Mk21 could be fitted with a vickers K for the observer at the back... Alot of the time they were not mounted because at that stage of the war the threat from Japanese opposition was virtualy nil (in the air)..
Early Mk21's did not have them initialy but later Mk21's did have them.. (Bearing in mind the Mk21 was an Australian copy of the English MkX, and didn't enter production until 1944)
By the way another point he brought up was the Sperry Auto pilot in the bulge at the front was rarely carried...

If I'm not mistaken, all of the planes in IL-2 that have hydraulic gear, also have manual gear when the hydraulic system takes damage. I have experienced this many times in several different types ( I get shot up quite a bit  ). But, I don't believe that the Hellcat had an air brake feature like the Corsair did. It was an actual air brake selection in the cockpit, that lowered the main landing gear and kept the tail wheel retracted. There was no restriction on the gear extention speed for the Hawg. I'm pretty sure that the Hellcat had a restriction on it's gear extention. Don't confuse this with stories of pilots using their landing gear to help slow them down in a pinch....it's not the same thing.

About adding a gunner to a plane that doesn't have one in the game...wouldn't that entail adding some kind of AI routine for it where none previously existed? I don't think it's as easy as picking out some suitable gunner position to stick in there. The game has to recognize that there is a position for you to go to in the first place, and then, if you're up front driving the bus, the game has to know that there should be an AI gunner back there minding the store. I don't think this will be very easy. But then, I'm pretty ignorant about this whole modding magic.

Theres already an observer in the back seat...

Absolutly correct...

However; this could be constituted a "cheat" ( ), and unfortunatly would change the W/L... and we all know what the position is on this. Despite the historical accuracy - it probably should not be done.

May I offer that Instead of calling it a "cheat", can we call it a sub - version of the Beaufighter

we all know we have a stack of different version of the Zero, Me-109, Spitfires etc that are differently armed, but in principle the same version of the airplane :!:

I really doubt the weight of a Vickers K (which can be represented by the rear gun of the Val) with ammo will be a detriment to the FM for such a big airplane.

And which aircraft do you suggest gets replaced with this? With an identical FM etc...
