Perhaps a combo of broken river courses (away from the coast where they can be a little wider at their mouths) and forest cover might do the trick. Where it's broken, throw trees over it so it runs under the canopy. Not unrealistic at all.

Attempts at 1 pixel size created broken river courses.
I thought I remembered reading that somewhere. I'll experiment later on. I just have sooo many things to do lately..

I'm cross examining Oleg's Guadalcanal and Google Earth, and his rivers are off around Lunga Point(oddly) but seem to be on for much of the rest of the island.
So what I will do is take Oleg's map as a reference, since its already in the proper format, and add the rivers he got right, and hopefully correct the ones he got wrong and apply those to my map. I'll try to keep them as thin as possible, and add forest if possible around them to make them appear thinner.

Skunk,I changed my in game lighting options to Medium, seems to help the water in the distance issue.Maybe a lighting setting in the map.

The problem isnt lighting. Its map_f and what it does. For now the colours on map_f are off, I will correct this at a later time.

Just wait to see how that islands look with water 2,3 or 4, and Skunkmeister is even improving it

But, what you've found is actually a good discovery for those who will be playing this in excellent settings.
I think I will take note of this and include it as a warning for those on lower end systems who will be wanting to install this map.

OK, this is not really Slot related, but I'll throw it out there...
There are what, 6 weather types in game?
Blind, rain/snow, and thunder being the worst.
Now that we have clear weather above, they are not totally useless I guess. OTOH, planes simply did not fly missions in really horrible weather, they'd be grounded. Sure, they might TO in the clear, then have to transit bad weather, but the game makes the whole map the same.
Is it possible to alter one of the weather choices? Say dump the lightning one altogether. In it's place, use something like "good" with a smattering of clouds, but keep the high wind speeds.
On regular missions, this would allow a wind to steam a CV into, and on DF maps using this choice, it would make static CVs more realistic by putting a breeze over the deck.
Is this even possible?

I dont think that when Oleg originally programmed his weather that he ever thought that maps would ever exceed a certain amount of acreage, and thus we have these limitions. Kind of like when Bill Gates said that 600k would be more than enough for anyone.
- spud - 11.01.2008
Yeah, I agree. The problem is that the really severe weather is pointless (IMO) since in RL planes would simply not have flown combat missions.
That's why deleting the worst weather in favor of decent weather with high wind might be cool. It would mean we could have CVs on ANY map for a DF map, and have wind over the deck.

Hi Skunk, I've been flying your beautiful map this afternoon after playing around with mods for the first time last night. I know there are plenty of issues to work out, but what you've done and Spud, Bee and the rest is really, truly amazing. I never thought I'd ever get to fly the Slot. I flew Buka to Henderson, and found texture/seam mismatches along alot of the coast--I'll PM the coordinates. I will go around each island to check for them, unless someone else has already done that. I flew over the Burma map again the other night, which is about the only map I've been flying on lately, and the distinctive tiling stands out there too, and I hadn't really noticed it--it's in all the originals, so I guess I'm just used to it. I like Bee's combo, but like you said, pine trees look odd.
Beautiful work!

Thanks for your help in testing saunders. Keep in mind though that what you see is not the final product, and everything is still being worked on (tirelessly I might add
).
There will hopefully be a second beta with a whole bunch of updates in the coming weeks. Right now I'm not expecting a final before February. Keep in mind folks that I started working on this 6-7 weeks ago, and that Slovakia took around 2 years to complete
Will keep you all posted with updates as often as possible.

After 5 straight hours of texturing Guadalcanal, Florida, and Malaita Islands, I decided to hop into my Catalina and go for a spin. Here is a shot of the Cheechman at the helm, with Mt. Austin in the background, and one of the new skins T gave me.
This map is truly stunning, and I think the new jungle textures really look sweet. Skunk, you da' man 8)
