This project is far, far, far from being at a place that I'm happy with, but I need you guys to test this stuff!
Just remember this, if and when you spot buggy behaviour:

Re: [MOD] AI Mod V.15 *UPDATE* - Xoddam - 24.01.2009
certificate,
Many, many thanks. Great to see someone managed to understand the AI and more important, managed to fix parts of it
I will do some tests to see if certain undesired behaviors were fixed.

I did some testing yesterday on the 1.4 version and I really liked it and was well surprised...I wanna spend the weekend with testing. Anyway, thanks a lot for this mod.

Last night I led four P47's against four Ki61's. As it turned out, I got shot down very quickly (along with two others of my flight) and I got up from the screen and went about other business for a while. After ten or fifteen minutes I came back and found the combat still raging. The remaining P47 was spiralling up to high altitude to escape the 61's chasing close behind.
This isn't how air combat works. In general, dogfighting aircraft tend to lose altitude as their aircrafts energy is used up, and the P47 in particular was known to have excellent dive characteristics, a method employed by its pilots to escape harm.
I suspect this fault was present in the default game as fighters seek higher altitude as an advantage, but somehow it now seems more emphasised. Is there any chance of reducing this urge to climb?
- Bee - 24.01.2009
Not really. An experienced P-47 pilot would use his superior aircraft to lure his opponent up to higher altitude. He has enough power to maintain the lead and keep himself out of range of the Ki-61's guns.
All the while, the Ki pilot thinks he's got the upper hand.
Once he's been dragged up to where the Hein is gasping and flopping about, the P-47 pilot can turn the tables. The Ki-61 is then in real trouble. As you said, the P47 in particular was known to have excellent dive characteristics....
Works very well online too, btw.
Perhaps though, such tendencies could be toned down in rookie and average settings, but maintained on veteran and ace?

I've only tested v14 last night (I never got round to testing the previous versions) and had two great dogfights. What a difference! Good job! I'll be testing the latest version tonight. Definitely one of the best and most welcome mods so far this year!

The AI airplanes, wingmen especially do indeed fly much differently. For one thing, they fly so close and tend to try and cut you off in the air so often it's a bit startling.
In fact, it looks like they fly the way people in real life here drive on the highways - dangerously

Nice , another new version !!!!
I was still testing the " older" version , time to start all over again (not a problem though)
btw. I noticed the new file was named AI mod in the mod folder , I was looking for the cert-ai-mod to see if it was properly installed.
Many thanks for your hard work , really appreciated !!!!

Really a great addition to the sim.
One thing I've noticed in several versions (1.1 to 1.4) is that AI planes seem to fly into terrain features more often than they did, particularly when they could easily avoid them by simply pulling up a bit. Seems as if the terrain avoidance code might have been a bit tweaked somewhere.
Also, a minor request, but since you're playing with the light settings, would it be possible to have AI turn on their landing lights for landing? I've always wanted that visual cue for planes in the pattern.
Thanks again for your work.

I noticed the new file was named AI mod in the mod folder , I was looking for the cert-ai-mod

Can both folders stay in place or does the older version (cert-ai-mod) need to be moved/deleted?

You are working your tail off certificate, and it is MUCH appreciated. I'll do some testing today to see if the AI wingman behavior is better. Many thanks!

certificate, just want to once again add my thanks to the fine work you're doing. Very impressive with how frequent you are updating/working on this and listening to all the requests (and yes, almost demands) that we are making. My hat is off to you sir. If you can't tell by all these responses, your work is very much appreciated!!!
