Buckingham Palace will be there. Seeing as it was bombed several times during the war, it just has to be there. That and the Battersea Power Station will be my last two London landmarks. I can't model every famous building in the city

Don't forget that Battersea power station had only two chimneys during the war - the others were added afterward.

Looking at the construction photo from the link above, it appears that the two on the east side were the ones built before the war.

ARRGH... I was in London 1974 I believe. I didn't remember seeing Battersea, but then Pink Floyd's Animals had yet to come out.
Gives me a wacky idea for a mod: a barrage balloon refashioned as a pig (great for target practice
)
Great work Joe- looking forward to this epic map 8)

Love the Tower - one of my ancestors was beheaded there!

Wow, really? So who was that then? And what had they done to deserve it?
- Yardstick - 26.01.2009
Robert Devereux - treason. Basically pissed off Elzabeth I. One of the towers is named after him.
Another ancestor was hung, drawn and quartered (mother's side this time) - I think my family rubbed the
wrong people up the
wrong way

Well, once my map is released feel free to try and liberate poor Robert before he loses his head

Canon - I wonder if it would be worth modelling Westminster Abbey, as you could then use it as a generic cathedral for Canterbury, Rochester etc.
Just a suggestion.....
- canonuk - 27.01.2009
Yeah, it might be an idea to make some generic Cathedral parts so I can make generic cathedrals. I'll see if I fancy another building project when I've finished Buckingham Palace.

Hey all,
Just in case you thought this was dead or something, here's a little update. I've been busy making England-appropriate buildings etc and tried a test run of Autopop-ing London. Really pleased with the results, and frame rates are really good. Might tweak the visibility distance of some of the objects a little though, but really good for a first go.
So, what next? Well, got a few more England objects to make first and then I'll be fine tuning the city texture placement on map_t. Then I can run Autopop for the whole of England and fine tune it. Finish the roads and English airfields and that's half the map completed
Joe

Love the work done here Joe!

Although IMHO I think that the ground tecture for city areas should have Compans London texture as a base instead of the green/fields so that London appears greyer. Do you understand? I'm no proposing or advocating that you get rid of the auto-pop; just the tecture under the buildings.
