Does make you kinda wonder why Oleg never gave us a true M model. Maybe play balance would ahve been skewed too much toward jug jocks? An M model would definately own high altitude. . I do very well now in the D-Late above 20,000 ft. I can jsut imagine taking on TA's and Dora's in an M.
... what differences externally are there from a P-47-M from a P-47-D-Late?

hmmmm, this sounds damned interesting. 8)

AFAIK very little but Chis and Diablo are better on this than me
a quick p47 history

seems accurate to me

Nice link Bolox! Didn't know that one existed.

externally there was little if any difference between a D model and an M model. Some older D's were converted to M's by adding the bigger P&W R-2800 engine. I beleive some M models also had the dorsal fin for stability but most did not. The M's also did not have bomb pylons as they were not used in the ground attack role. The M model was all about speed. Some even had 2, 50 cals removed to make them even lighter as the Stang had proven that 6 50 cals were plenty. I personally would not want 2 of my gun taken away. I would prefer more firepower over a little more speed given that the M could do 470 mph at altitude as it was. I really do not understand why Oleg gave us a D-Late with "almost M performance" Why not give us the full blown M model?

Right, so to clarify, there would be very little, if any changes, to make the model a M, only FM work...?

A little, but if you want a M, now is the time to ask.

There would be some minor exterior changes which I have highlighted in red.
I believe the fin was added in the field when the M's reached the ETO. When the bomb pylons were added I don't know. I have included the Curtis paddle prop as opposed to the Hamilton prop. Those more enlighted may be able to help with those details.
Possible release date? - Mysticpuma - 01.08.2008
Taurus and Poncho a question for you.
I've followed this thread like a disciple and you are the Messiah's (can you have two? Anyway!!), and the development has been amazing. Also following the other thread with the new gun sights, as I watched my beloved P-47 at last getting the treatment it has so sorely required since it's inception.
Patience I know is a virtue, but here's the question.
Realistically, how long do you see it being before this cockpit gets released for Beta testing to the community?
Only asking, as I know it's (well for me anyway) quality over quantity, buy do you have a rough idea....(and before it gets said and my sides split with laughter...2-weeks!!!)
There, now that's been said, thoughts gentlemen?

Good question Mystic. As far as I can see, I have three more models to render before the spit and polish.
I haven't caught up with Poncho yet about a schedule so stay tuned.
Just starting one of the last three model renders. (The panel you know about.)
Cheers,
Taurus.

Firstly it really is a credit to all those who visit this site, of the patience and support shown. 8)
I have run the following past Poncho and he indicated that it should fit in with his projects. The texture stages are in no particular order but you can cross them off the list as they are done.
The current status is that the razorback is being worked on and released first. But many of the textures and meshes will carry over to the bubbletop.
- The panel is in final stages of rendering. It is far from correct but it is what we have at the moment to work with. That will take about 3 - 4 days of render and test, but will be final.
- Poncho has worked his magic again and the rudder pedals are in final. 2 - 3 days.
- Throttle model, render and test for the D-22 (square handle). 2 - 3 days.
- Small patches to be modelled, rendered and tested. 3 - 4 days.
- The six panel instrument textures will need to be adjusted. Quick and dirty 1 day.
Defringe ALL the TGA texture files and test  5 days. (Adjust the transparency edges of the textures.)
Then it is consolidation of the files, check and correct. Zip, test and post. How long that will take I really have no idea.
That's my best guestimate excluding RL. Hope that allays some anguish as we too would rather be flying than working, but in an improved pit.
Cheers,
Taurus.

Ok, thanks for the info on the M, any external changes seem minimal.
As for your project, I gather you have new meshes required for importation? If so, you may wish to add a few weeks to that list for the importation of them.
