Here's a pic of an F-86A that got shot up by a Mig-15. The damage is amazingly similar to Peter D's modeling. Very impressive.
This was Glen Eagleston after he got shot up in the spring of '51.
That's a painting of what the airplane looked like before it got shot up.
In case you didn't know, Eagleston was a prominent P-51 ace from WWII (18.5 kills) he got 3 Migs over Korea too.

Some Fs did have slats as they were converted and never taken off.

Not sure about that.. don't have my library handy but the "conversion" common in Korea was from slatted wings to the 6-3 Hard Wing..not the other way around. Any plane that was "converted" should have gotten the hard wing.
