i have been following this mod since its birth.
this is just my input.

a nice touch would be for the flights not to follow each other around like a chain in a dogfight.
in real time, a flight lead would give the order to engage and the flight would split, usually into pairs or would engage separate enemies.

also, i have tested 2 flights of 4 planes against 2 flights of 4 enemy planes.

i saw many instances of a plane dropping between 2 enemies and engaging the lead plane, but the leads wing man does not engage the attacker. Also, when planes are on approach to landing, when attacked they do not evade or reengage.

any chance these issues could be addressed ?

other than the issues presented, this is an exceptional mod, thanks Big Grin

So has there been any progress with the mod?

I have seen this too. I have also been on the receiving end. My wingman just sits back there while I'm being shot full of holes and doesn't so much as say, "Hey dude, did you know you have somebody that's not me on your tail. Get outta his way."

WOW!!!! - ijustneedmods! - 20.03.2009

IT MAKES IT SEEM SO REAL!!!! i love getting in a rolling sissers with a zero !! its fun, makes the game an actual challenge thx

This is my first version and compared to stock the artificial intelligence is kick ass! Had a great high altitute fight in 2 P-51s with 2 109s. What was cool was my ai wingie took the fight upstairs and in time I was able to take out the 109s as they struggled to catch my wingie at 25,000 ft.

The ai still detect me when I try to sneak up in what should be a deadzone, but now I don't know what defensive action they will take instead of the old tired break roll they always used to do.

This is great and if there is more potential in what you are doing to the ai -- Rock On!

Hi Certificate, I don't know if it's possible to do or if anyone ask it to you before me (there are 42 pages in this topic... I can't reads all of them), but I think it's a great thing if the AI pilots are affected by an almost partially blindness if they flying in front of the sun or into a cloud...

I don't try this Mod yet and, but normally the AI pilots aiming as they're in a completely clean sky in any day's weather condition...
Perhaps if this help you, I remenber that they're not so accuractly in night's aiming.

P.S. Sorry for my English, but I'm Italian and I speaks well only the Spaghetti's language!!!

Been giving this mod a good test over the past few days.

There are far sure some improvements, and they are good.

It would be nice if we had an idea of just what you are trying to do with the AI.

Then we can test it for days in a myriad of situations. Afterall, there are alot of us very interested in the outcome.

-------------

Today I did F4U-C with rockets against ships and flak 38Cal. Interesting, the F4U actually seemed to setup like a sensible pilot would for attacking well protected targets. The F4s would make some large circle around the target area and then make a pass. They were pulling some pretty good manuevers to get their hits on target. They would barrel roll and roll over inverted and drop quickly without pulling negative g's, which is smart. This was fun to watch.

The engagements within aircombat were not so good. I introduced some A6M Zeros and iall the F4U did was run and eventually get shot down. Often the A6M were manuevering so hard to get shots they would pass in from of the F4U and the F4U made no effort to go offensive.

The F4U did do alot of good defensive manuevers, but eventually the A6M either ran out of bullets or shot the F4U down.

There is still the same old Il2 problem where an enemy flys in between you and your wingman and the wingman never takes a shot. I mean that gets old getting you aircraft shot down and your wingman just follows along.

Oh... I don't fly as player when I test the AI MOD. I only let the AI fly against the AI.

Is it just me, or is there an increased frequency of AI taxiing accidents? I'm always in the circuit when it happens so I can never really see for myself what's going on, but I'll hear a guy put in a request for landing clearance, and about two minutes later he'll start screaming that he's hit and then either bailing out or blowing up. I hadn't noticed this (as much) before, is there something within the mod causing it or have my wingmen just been unlucky recently?

Otherwise a very good mod, I actually have to try to down ace planes now, thanks Big Grin

I just made a couple more custom missions autopilot AI only against each other.

This time I used F6F against A6M, because during WW2 the F6F was an equal and more powerful performer to the Zero.

So, I used the mod 1.7. The AI F6F fought just like the AI F4U-C .

Then I removed the AI MOD and went back to 4.08 and ran the same scenarios with the F4U and F6F.

Actually, the AI were very engaged to shoot each other. Same old sleepy AI wingman, but everyone else was doing their best to kill the enemy.

However, the AI responses to TAB commands are the same. There are so many anomalies with the AI it makes you wonder what to do. You'll wear out your brain trying to do workarounds.

Face it, without a competent AI this sim is a dog for Offline Play. This is an ONLINE sim and without a competent AI performance it's best just to get back on hyperlobby. At least the humans don't frustrate your brainpan. LOL

Like many of you offline players I'm following this thread closely.
