Cracken Wrote:Hi, I wondered if I could find the world famous monument of Angkor Wat in this map. I flew all over the area of Siem Raep and the close airfields, but I didn't find it. Is it there? :?:

there is an oblong stretch of water at the site..and some forest...and I put a few pieces of castle ruins there to just show the site...nothing we have in objects can approximate the Angkor ruins Cry

sorry Fly_zo...didn't think you'd bother trying to translate it.....lol

it means ...all done

I bet you thought I was talking dirty to you........ In Thai there are no spaces between words, but as we use the comma, to seperate phrases.
Many languages combine words with different meanings to create yet another meaning, or join several words with similar meaning to emphasize something.
Thai is particularly difficult to translate word by word because of this.

Thanks very much to Zulu64 for sharing his file, but I still can't get this map to save a mission in FMB. However, I tried FF's missions and they load and play. Strange. :?

Great looking map.

LF, have you got Canon's BoB map working? That an Lal_Rone's hangar mod? They might be the key, as I think this map depends on some of those objects.

- Low_Flyer - 31.07.2008

Hi Bee, I've got the BoB map working in QMB thanks to a pack of missions for QMB+. Still no joy in saving either BoB or Thailand in FMB. I don't understand how I can play pre-made missions with no trouble, yet can't make my own (bear in mind computer programming wouldn't be my specialist subject on 'Mastermind').

I must say again I reallly like what I've seen on both maps so far.

Static ini problem?..
The static ini was my big pain in the backside when trying to get canon's map to save..

- Bee - 31.07.2008

I've had a bit of practice at this sort of stuff. I reckon I know what yer problem is.

If a mission like a downloaded one or a QMB template created from a working version of the map is on your machine, the mission will load, but the game engine will just skip the objects you haven't installed correctly (one of the clever bits of Oleg's design).

When you you want to make your own though, the FMB tries to save the mission, gets to a bit where it doesn't recognise a section of the static.ini for that particular map and just stalls-out in the saving process.

The fault lies in your com\maddox\il2\objects folder. You can only have one of these. It is a quirk of the Mods folder architecture that it will happily read any other folder that is represented in several locations (3Do/Planes folder for example) but the game will read only one com\maddox\il2\objects folder - the first one it finds alphabetically. All the Air, Static, Stationary and techics ini's need to be in the one place for the game to recognise them.

That is the first rule. The other is making sure that your BoB map can save in FMB. Make sure that you install the Blister thing I mentioned earlier. It isn't optional.

After that, if the BoB can save properly, you know you'll be setup to tackle this map too.
If it helps, i've uploaded my own Static.ini here:

http://www.zshare.net/download/1630211642d47e10/

The BoB, R1's hangars and Freds Thailand map objects are already entered and working on it.

Raally like to see you get sorted with this. Once you get your head around how the game is structured it becomes childs play. Happy modding! Tongue

At last! I made a folder called '1' and copied the com folder into it. Thanks very much indeed. Beers all round!

Woohoo! Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin

- CUJO_1970 - 31.07.2008

I'm going to try Bee's suggestion when I get the time - hope it works, the map looks gorgeous and I've been wanting to make a sort of CIA/Air America campaign for it :o

It would be good for everyone, especially new users, if we could make a universal, standardized filepath for everything. Also standardized .ini. files etc. that everyone could see and check against their own.

- fabianfred - 31.07.2008

How would this sort of thing look for monuments like Angkor wat?

- JudgeMingus - 01.08.2008

I think it is fine in itself, but in the context of the map it doesn't blend well yet - it looks a bit too high res and high contrast for the rest of the map.

Also, I would probably be tempted into low passes, and I suspect any 2D land texture won't stand up to close inspection and would look flat...

While IL-2 has done a reasonable job of making ground detail available as well as good landscape rendering up to medium altitudes (in other games of its age, the tradeoff of hig/low alt rendering was much much worse), it still seems hard to integrate densely detailed areas with the landscape around it.
