If I find myself in a fair fight.. my superior did not plan properly
If I find myself in a fair fight in IL2 it means that I finally got my waypoints right :?

What is flying without a good view?
In my opinion, you're actually depriving yourself of not just maps you don't care for if you stopped at 4.04
In the latest official version of the sim, you have not just new maps, of places like NW Burma and Norway, but you have aircraft that are crucial to the PTO- such as the Ki-21. Also, many objects have been added to the sim since the 4.04 days
if you were to have this fully-functional Slot map right now, you would be missing things that could very much help you build campaigns, and even more to the point- most campaign builders will make the campaigns they make to the latest version, so you would be missing out on some great campaigns made using this map
On a slightly different note, my AVG campaign has been re-made and expanded to include much much more than just what WTCF offered- it's 71 missions now and also uses the P-40E, with a host of custom skins including unique skins for about 50 AVG machines, but without 4.07...you can't play it. I could never wait for a Rangoon, Magwe, Loiwing, Yunnan, Thailand, Kwangsi, etc etc map to be made. If I had all those maps right now I might consider re-making it, but I don;t and...to be honest? I'll still be waiting for years to have all nine locations we don't have maps for, that I need for that campaign
But anyway, I really suggest bringing your install up to at least 4.08. It's more than maps and not just some fantasy planes. You're really limiting yourself in my opinion. Once you have the slot, you still won't have the planes and objects I do if you are at 4.04

Hi former_older. I know I missed out on stuff, but the new aircraft types and objects (though nice)were just not what I missed in this game: I wanted more and improved maps above all.
Now that this is being realised by the several modding teams here I ordered a copy of 1946 8)
Monday I will be on 4.08 and\or 4.09
Oleg should be thankful to you guys!
I don't look forward to transfer all my modified stuff though..
I already played your second AVG campaign although I had to modify most missions because of missing planes and objects.
BTW many thanks for your excellent AVG campaigns! You have given me many hours of fun!!
One of the very few campaigns I actually finished and the only one I replayed!

Hey Spud,
I did forget the runway length I had posted already....lol
Also runway headings!

Yeah, course we'd need to figure out what projection we are using for the maps. Or at least which way mag north is.
The IL-2 world isn't a proper sphere, is it?

Sure it is, Il2 is PERFECT!

If it was perfect there would be no need for this site... 'Hello.. Planet IL2..'
- RealDarko - 11.02.2008
Hey guys! Can someone confirm the status of the map?
- FA_Cheech - 11.02.2008
I'll just give you a status of what I know, and T, spud, and Skunk can fill you in on the rest.
All of the geography is in, and texturing is about 95 percent complete; just some fine-tuning on these two items, remain to be done.
About 99 percent of the place-name labeling and objects for villages, plantations and small towns on Tulagi, Gavutu, Tanambogo, Malaita, Florida, and Guadalcanal are complete.
About 95 percent of all the villages, plantations, small towns, and labeling are complete for the rest of the islands in the Solomons chain, and over the next few days I will check every place-name on the map for errors and final object placement. This should take no more than a few days.
I am still trying to get copies of USS Mackinac's (AVP-13) deck logs, from the US National Archives, for the early part of the campaign in order to make sure we have the US sea plane base locations on Malaita correct.
T and spud are working on completing the airfield lay downs. There are still several airstrips on Guadalcanal that need to be built, and that is probably the "longest pole in the tent", as getting everything on the airstrips properly laid out, and spawn points entered and tested is very time consuming ( T has spent at least a week of concentrated effort on Piva, alone).
Skunk has completed his home move and is back on-line, and will be making several small changes to coastlines, etc., over the next few days.
Once the "late war version" of the map is complete, we probably have a few days of airfield deleting, and re-texturing, that is required to build '42, '43, and '44 versions of The Slot required by the community.
The release date is up to Skunk, but my personal opinion is that everything is tracking well for Skunk's anticipated March release date.

+1

Yeah, I thnk so as well. For other teams forming or out there, I think you'll find that there is a certain amount of independent work that can be done, and then some time near the end the finished product will need to pass from person to person to tweak stuff (textures near my airfields, and minor hills need to be done by me, diito for T and cheech).
