I know this is asking a lot, but can someone make Viper quit posting in this thread? He's really starting to irk me and themodeler.

Gents -- BUTTON IT.
If you object, fine. It's not for us to tell you what to like and dislike. But if these guys want to try and put a jet in, then it's their right to try.

Thank you very, very much. I wish there was a way to express my gratitude.

Personally I'm happy to see any aircraft, anybody wishes to spend their free time creating for the community to use free of charge.
Kudos to themodeler and anyone who assists him. I look forward to seeing this mod evolve.
Modern fighters combined with the best damage model in any sim ever..... yes please!!
Cheers, Neil

And the debate goes on...

ArcticViper Wrote:...so less time should be wasted on this work, and more spent on projects of planes that were relevant to the conflict this game is originally based on and therefore has the engine DESIGNED for!
There's a substantial difference between
should and
shall, where shall is more of an order.
How you read it and interpret it is up to you, but the intention was never to demand cessation of this project.
I do know that making such a simple small thing as ailerons is never what holds the other projects you mentioned up (unless there's a lack of reference, and there isn't in the case of these modern aircraft.)
Thread cleaned of unrelated material.

At the risk of riling people up I'd have to disagree. I liken this effort to somebody donating violins to a piano school or sending parkas to Haiti. The intent might be noble but the effort entirely misdirected. This is a prop and early jet sim... and that's it. What would one think if a java programmer or skinner signs on to assist with this and another more appropriate project languishes because the assistance the modeller needs is not there. Should an F-18 make it in over a Shoki or a Do-17?
At the heart of this is something that I've wondered about since the early days of the add ons. Wouldn't it be better to find a balance between content that is beneficial to the community and appealing to the modeller as opposed to something that appeals only to the modeller and has limited to no use in the sim? There is so much WWII content out there that is half done or not done at all... creating content that has nothing to do with the actual focus of the sim seems to be a bit of lost plot.

lol a jet for the IL-2 flight model
As you said, feel free to carry on and keep us updated, I just have 2 little question2:
1) why in IL-2?
2) what kind of accuracy level are you looking to achieve?
we all know (more or less..) the limitations of this flight model, which is borderline acceptable (and anyway incomplete) for propeller driven airplanes, so why bothering spending time and effort in something that will never actually be that good?
If it's because you want to be able to see a jet in the game engine, fair enough, but there are far better sims for jets that take a lot of other parameters into account (high speed alpha stall, compressor stall, transonic and supersonic FM, flutter etc..), not to mention all the armament system, which apart for the conventional bombs and cannon should be built from scratch..
If I really had to think of a modern jet to fiddle with, I'd choose a Harrier, which at least is subsonic but it would be a real challenge to fly..
Again, you'll never achieve the realism of other available sims..
I don't mean to diss or anything, I'm genuinely interested in the aims of this project.
A.

Men, if I may say...
I know this guy. We know this guy. He's an alias.
This mod WILL get done. We FINALLY have someone with the time, knowledge, and skill to put this together.

Congratulations.
You just insulted every single modder that ever made any contribution to IL-2.
And that's including the people that actually made the modding
POSSIBLE...
We'll see how long it takes, in the meantime, enjoy:

Yes. No offense intended to anyone, of course. I mean I think we all trashed people who suggested these because they just asked and demanded. Now that we have someone who is making them, a lot of us aren't totally against it.

I would not like to see a mod like this for il-2, that being said i think u should continue to work on it and when its down post it and see what can of response u get. i wouldnt download this but that doesnt mean it shouldnt happen. i thought this website was designed for the posting of any mods relating to il-2 and if u continue to get respones like the ones i've seen then move it to a place like sas1946
