I made some quick screenies of a bomb crater using a destroyed camo net and some circular trench objects. As you can see, it would require someone to remove the poles and ammo boxes from the objects, then we'd have a pretty good, clippable crater object.

Hardball...... you might find that the damaged versions of those look better....blackened and less even

the only trouble is that they require several different objects superimposed upon each other..

the single large one you have there would be alright without the destroyed net smudge

the large coral gun pit in destroyed state is good too

that's great info Hardball, but i think your data would have greater impact if it was posted in it's own thread instead of here in the Slot thread.

Still no need to screw customers the way they did.

Although I think Oleg and crew are probably kicking themselves because of the lost revenue they could have made from this still very good game.. to say he was 'screwing' us is just a mile wide of the mark..

- VFS-214_Hawk - 24.02.2008

Nah, he screwed us. If I had known in the beginning PF was what it was (or wasn't) , I would not have purchased it. I purchased it believing that it contained just such maps as we describe here. Then there are the planes and other important items to consider.

A friend introduced me to this game because PF was due out by Christmas of that year, if I recall correctly. He sent me his CDs so I could load up and wait for the release of PF. I kept hoping the "patches" would come but never did. I even bought 1946, again hoping some sort of PF patch would surprise us. It never did. Last year I packed up my controls and put them in storage. Anothe friend told me about this forum and is why I am back. Simply to fly The Slot and nothing more. Yes, Oleg screwed, at least me thinking PF was something it was far from.

Can't agree with you, but that's life.. Although not perfect, I've had immense fun with PF, even with its limitations. People have improved the IL2 experience even without the 'mod' with great usermade campaigns, skins, work on the Dgen front etc, and thats for all disc sets, not just PF, because they needed a huge tweaking to make them more playable.. For instance, no Lancaster, no flyable Blenhiem, No Spit MkI, no Do 17, no Typhoon, no Southern England map, No French flyables, no Northern France and Belgium.. the list is endless.. Never thought about uninstalling, that would be like cutting off my nose just to spite my face.. never thought about blaming the Maddox crew although I think they had repeatedly missed opportunities to create lots of revenue.. I've still, like thousands of others, loved what they have given me despite that!

Ok! calm down!
Look at the bright side!!! Now we are getting all the maps that we want and maybe some we dont!
PF was disaster allright. I dont blame Oleg. I think its UbIsoft guys, who pressed them too hard. I remember, when i saw typical scandinavian house in singapore. LOL. What really suprises me, is why didnt they use any elevation in the maps. Were they afraid of high places? Or, probably FM cant handle complicated terrain. AI Planes crashes to mountains an so...Anyways, we dont ever had to play CF2 again

- Former_Older - 24.02.2008

Ilya "Luthier1" Shevchenko was PF's Daddy Smile RRG developed it, they work with Oleg's firm

Unfortunately both RRG studios and 1C:Maddox Games just didn't know much about the PTO. Shame, but they really put their collective foot in it...PF barely hits the high spots...I think of it as if it were an Eastern Front sim that only has Lvov, Kursk, and Berlin...they just didn't know the subject of the PTO at all. I've talked to people who were part of the process who have told me stories like the aircraft in PF of which the dev team were ignorant of completely- didn't even know it was used. They had never heard of it's use (!) I cannot guess how much or how little the PTO is known in general in the areas in which these people grew up- their country was never involved, after all. I think that PF was of a scope they vastly underestimated and misunderstood completely- and that the blame rests with them as they should have researched it

Luckily things like this Slot map are going to go a long way toward proper PTO content. I'm still stunned by what I'm seeing in this project

The quality and attention to detail are simply astounding. Maps are the biggest sin in the sim, and this is like absolution

- Skunkmeister - 24.02.2008

Its true that you cant really blame them for their ignorance. But then again, you are putting out a commercial product, why do a half-assed job instead of a completely researched one? I know there were time and money constraints but geeze... You know if the map tools had been made available to the public to begin with, they could have concentrated on aircraft models and such to complete their sets, and let us deal with creating proper map content.

Then again, I dont think even they knew what their engine was capable of...This map is really pushing it in terms of size and scope, creating the files to work on this map are a real resource hog. In the enhanced FMB sometimes we run in to some hiccups and memory issues. But once in game it seems to run just as smooth as any other map.

With this I bring you some minor updates on the status of the map. The coast lines are 99.9% done. We just have to tweak textures and elevation now, and the rest of the team is working their asses off to bring you accurate airfields.

March is a good time frame for release, but remember that March also counts 31 days Wink

What he said.
