I will never get any work done.

~S~m8,
You have no one to blame but yourself...the technique you developed and perfected for placing custom, scaled, airfield templates directly into the game was instrumental to The Pacific Team's airfield building effort. It significantly reduces construction time, and increases historical accuracy by orders of magnitude...our hat's off to you :!:

Better start working on your time managment skills bucko, 'cause this baby will be released - be sure Wink

FA_Cheech Wrote:Just so you know, I have actually seen posts on other forums where the anti-mod crowd has made comments about The Slot like "...they are not developers, so the Slot probably won't be up to typical IL2 standards..."

And thank God, frankly, that the Slot is NOT up to typical Il2 standards for maps. We all know how the typical Il2 standards for maps is actually not very high at all- we have several maps from the official developers such as Burma, and Norway, Slovakia, etc that are very, very nice pieces of work- but they are not the typical Il2 standard for maps either. They are much higher than the typical il2 map standard

The typical Il2 map standard is fairly low to be honest. Maps with places that did not exist during the second world war, improper place names, etc...how can these maps be defended as "high standard"? i assume that originally, a lower standard for maps was acceptable. But still, having suburbs that didn't exist in WWII on a map is fairly inexcusable- and I also harbor a sore spot still over the number of houses that are smack dab centered on roadways in many maps

So be proud that your map is not the "standard quality Il2 map". It's funny, there are plenty of people who wholeheartedly agree that 3rd party campaigns are better than anything the devs made, and that 3rd party skins are better than anything that shipped with the sim, but somehow, maps can't be made that are high quality...?? very shaky logic

The Slot will be a benchmark for maps- professionally developed or otherwise- if it is even half as good and half as detailed as the WIP pics show

a lot of the cases where houses are in the roads etc. are because they lazily used an auto generation thing to place objects....and no quality control to scan for errors

Heck, they didn't even make custom airfields. They could have made a couple dozen templates instead of what they did.

The thing that stuns me is how much was represented as VERY difficult. It's just not that hard (says the guy not having to make the elevations and coast maps look nice Wink ). It's WORK, but it's not anywhere near as hard as they suggested.

totally agree!! Personally this was always an immersion killer factor...

I suppose one could excuse 1C for poor Pacific/SEA maps because there probably isn't all that much info about these areas in the FSU............ but even the Eastern Front maps leave a lot to be desired. Kronshtadt harbour, on the Gulf of Finland map, is incomplete.......... and the work that WAS done contains some glaring errors that even only a few minutes searching on the internet reveal. Crimea........... an airfield to the south of Sebastopol that didn't exist in real life; Fort Maksim Gorky, a focal point for the defence, left out (not even included as object to be placed by mission builders).
And don't get me started on the Singapore map!
Fortunately, the AAA community now has the possibility to correct the default maps.......... and add our own! The Slot map will be a very tough act to follow, however............

It can only get better as the dedicated people here fix a lot of the maps that were lacking in the game, and add new ones such as the slot, BOB and Darwin. If only we could add "new" planes properly. Id love to fly the Vampire

- VT-51_Razor - 14.03.2008

I'd love to fly the Vampire too. I'm just curious about the time frame you're in to. This is a WWII simulator!!

What is the final map coverage area for "the SLOT" - nearmiss - 15.03.2008

I was looking at some of the earlier postings, those dealing with the map area covered.

What is the final map coverage area?

I did notice a posting with a listing of airbases, etc., is that the final?

Maybe a picture or something, us ole mission builders are lickin' our chops. LOL

Thanks for this great effort.

Here is a shot of the Mid 1943 version (reflected by the available airfields, basically).
