I agree. I go to the zoo once in a while, answer a few technical questions, then leave. I'm not saying anything about mods over there as the closed minded that infest that board need to stay there. No need in them coming here, using up band width and making useless posts about EULA violations and what cannot be done in Il2 because Oleg said it cannot be done. Leave the sleeping dog alone, otherwise you might get bitten.

Yeah, I try and be very very subtle, myself.

Maybe one of the DCG wizards like Scharnhorst can enlighten us how DGEN switches maps

Absolutely, if it has not already been done, I am still reading and catching up with the posts Big Grin

Basically, with DCG, the campaign designer populates the map. He can use several different triggers to end the campaign. So if a trigger happens, the campaign will advance to the next map. Again, it is up to the campaign designer to decide which maps are played in what order. In my DCG guide thread, if you can find the section where I talk about the "allcampaigns.dcg" and the "grandcampaign.dcg" files is where I explained how to make one. But those two files do the following,

1) tell the game engine what goes where and who ownes what at the start of each map.

2) tells the game which map to go to after the current map has been won or lost and then what goes where and who ownes what for the next map.

It is not intuitively obvious, but there is a way to have shorter flight times with this map. Basically, the campaign designer (me) will only populate the islands close to Guadalcanal and have the Americans either start with Guadal or have a battle for Guadalcanal. Then, when whatever victory conditions is met, the campaign will advance to the next map I have set up (which will be the next islands and move up further with Americans controling those airfields). I can have more than one campaign map use the same physical map. I can have say a map called "Slot1," on which I only use the three southern Islands for the campaign. When that map is won or lost, it will advance to the next map "Slot2." THAT map will be only the middle islands. When it is won or lost the campaign will advance to "Slot3," which will only be the northern islands.

This option will keep flight times managable as well as get you too see the entire map through your campaign. Just an option we have that we can use. And this is probably what I will do to set up my replacement campaigns for DCG when this map comes out.

back on topic here.

anyone have more pics of Kieta or Tenekau? we've scraped the internet pretty good and our own personal books but could use some more. Also some more of Stirling field.

- VFS-214_Hawk - 17.03.2008

I have a photo of Stirling here, in my copy of "History of Marine Corps Aviation in WWII".

It's a low angle shot from perhaps 5 miles from the coast, from 1,000' up or so. Shows the bay to good advantage, and the field is off to the right. Mountains or very steep hills to the left

I may have other photos too, the index doesn't list photos (I had a hunch), so I would have to look through every photo in the book

Could this photo be of any help?

By the way, map makers, when was the last time you did a backup of your hard drive?

It might be a good idea in order to keep Murphy's law at bay... It'd be a shame to lose it all to a hardware failure at this late stage...

Just a community service message from your resident paranoid Wink

Well, we have a copy online we share, plus our 4 copies. We update to latest version frequently, so at most we might lose 1 guy's work for a day or so.

Hoping I get some quality time with the FMB tonight Big Grin
