Great works guys, will test it as soon as will have my system running for it..
Got banned from 1 C.. and it was well worth it to say things..
got banded? - VPF_Jetdoc - 04.04.2008
what did you say over there
- GOZR - 04.04.2008
A mild truth..
It;s ok a bit OT but anyway.. so who has more pics of this Slot map
- Former_Older - 04.04.2008
Oh, hey, it's unfair to the folks that spent all this time making these maps, and not just the Slot maps, to have that effort and hard work used as a tool to get some type of personal revenge on Oleg Maddox. If the people that make these mods want to say "In your face Oleg", then even though I disagree with that sentiment (and I'm sure most of those modders feel that way), that is up to them. Don't go around presenting what they do in an abrasive and argumentative way. Please

Just helping with the surprise

I was in that thread at 1C, and just so you know, Chris, I'm not in the "get at Oleg" camp. I think these projects really show the "good bones," I suppose my only real complaint is that some of this wasn't released to the community at large (map making stuff). I think that it's best to have a constructive eye towards SoW, frankly. Legitimate (not personal or mean-spirited) criticism that points the way towards possible improvements/solutions for SoW.
Frankly, they could have just watched the mission builder's forum and given the tools to anyone who bothered to spend X-hundred hours building a kick-ass campaign like WTCF. But I digress.
ObImage (thx, Chris
):
(I'll save the details of Chris's work for a surprise.)

I know that's not your standpoint, spud
hey, that mission looks fun
- stansdds - 04.04.2008
Stans is quite envious of the few that get to test these maps. The screen shots are absolutely incredible!

I figured as much, I was sorta using it as a segue to a statement about trying to be, diplomatic with criticism.
Clearly doing a really good job is a LOT of work. More urban areas would be easier in some way---meaning that achieving a attractive visual effect is easier to figure out vs naught to work with but the limited landscape engine---but much harder in sheer scut work (imagine decorating X gajillion square kms with streets, buildings, parked cars, telephone poles (once you start, it's hard to stop
).
Maps like this one, and Slovakia, etc, really are an object lesson in the idea that the community needs the tools. Given the tools, the community will build it.
- Former_Older - 04.04.2008
Yes
It would be like the idea that the community couldn't make good campaigns or skins, in a way. I don;t understand why the tools were not made available and never will...maybe the fear of lost revenue on SoW:BoB but honestly, doesn't that give the impression that BoB is all about a map? We all know that SoW is much more than just maps, but somehow 1C:Maddox games feels that the way to get interest is to reserve a map?
Poor marketing strategy in my opinion- the enticement should be cutting-edge combat flight simulation- not a map. Flight simmers don;t need to have the genre spoon-fed to them, and let's face it- only flight simmers are remotely interested in flight sims! Gamers new to the genre don't rush out and buy up sims like candy anyway
- stansdds - 05.04.2008
It may simply boil down to Oleg's philosophy and life experiences. He grew up under the Soviet Union and Communist party rule, where secrets were the rule of the day. He may be applying the idea of keeping everything about his sims secret to his marketing of them. Then again, it could be greed and rather than a $20 add on to make a real Pacific sim for IL2 he would rather sell us a $50 game engine and each new theater at $20 a pop. That being said, the Il2 game engine does have limitations, primarily at high altitude where winds are not modeled. Storm of War may not have such short comings, but we will have to wait to find out. And wait, and wait, and wait, and wait...
