@ Pacific Team,
Do any of you know where/what Lolabinauri is/was in the Solomons.
In the pilot journels of VMF-213 I've come across this entry, and cannot find Lolabinauri.
Quote:Wednesday 28 April
118th Day, 247 Days to come
Big day today. 0600 - 1045 raid on Lolabinauri. Repeated this afternoon. My hind end is absolutely numb. SBDs & TBFs bombed the hell out of everything; but I think we will have to attain final objective by fighter sweep. The Japs certainly are good at camouflage. Air Raid warning this evening - False.

Some airfield photographs.

as for the Lolabinauri, the only thing that would be close namewise is Lola Island west of Munda airfield.

I have spent quite a bit of time looking at place names on
The Slot, but that one does not ring a bell. But that's not surprising, as there are over 700 village and place names in there, and my memory is not what it used to be
.
When I get home tonight, I will check the texts.txt files and see if I can find it.
Wow, Thanks! - Dixiecapt - 08.04.2008
Wow, Thanks for the help. I've been looking over Naval Charts, and Maps looking for this place.
I assume somewhere in the New Georgia-Rendova Area as the Missions that surround this one are as follows:
April 25 = Strike
Segi & Vangunu
April 28 = Strike
Lolobinauri
May 3 = Strike
Rekota Bay
May 4 = Strike
Vanga Vanga
I've also yet to locate Vanga Vanga, but I haven't spent as much time searching for it.

Here is another reference to :
On April 3, 1943, the VMF-213 departed Espiritu Santo, code named both Buttons and Ebon, for Guadalcanal, code named Cactus and Ebay. On April 4, they relieved the VMF-124 and started to operate from Henderson Field on Guadalcanal. The squadron

Yet, another reference :
DIVISION B. As hereinbefore set out, PTs 162 and 109 of Division B with PT 169 of Division A were in Blackett Strait off Vanga Vanga, as was PT 157, which however, was not in contact with them. Around 0215 the three were due East of Gizo Island headed South, in right echelon formation with PT 109 leading, PT 162 second and PT 169 last.
The area that JFK's PT-109 was sunk in. Blackett Strait being at the southern end of Kolumbangara Island. Solomons.
Hope this helps.

Did you find him?Maybe he's in the squad canteen drinking whisky with Pappy Boington discussing air combat tactics.
j/k I hope everything is cool with him,I know he recently moved in to a house from an apt. so i'm sure that's keeping him pretty busy.

It's not there. (google earth).

Names of places can change over time.

spud Wrote:It's not there. (google earth).
That is what I implied, but you can triangulate the area that it was situated by checking the other places mentioned in the mission description.
- Dixiecapt - 09.04.2008
yeah those locations are not on "Google Earth"
No worries I have dated charts,
but more importantly I don't want to the topic of these locations to hijack the Thread, since everyone is watching it so closely for a release!
