So what about something useful from you? -Anti-Cheating MOD? - kosmev99 - 08.01.2008
Well,
Sorry guys, but I think MODs, or more precisely MOD tools will simply broke the game.
I was ill at home at Sunday. It took me some google-ing, your forum search, and some basic java knowledge to make several hacks, which can completely ruin the online game! Last night I showed them to my squad mates and they all were terrified! Some of them said they are reluctant to play anymore, and these are guys I'm playing with for several years!
My point is that since it was so easy for me, it shall be easier for the majority of other players whith basic programming knowledge.... And the temptation of using hacks is something that most of them won't resist..
All these fancy MODs for russian planes with japanese cockpits and german gunners can't be a good trade off for the fair online play!
Sorry to say it, but I blame you for spoiling these great community!
So why don't you focus on something useful actually?! Why don't you try to create an anti cheating MOD? It may look like some MOD-pack, with all of the approved MOD in it, checked by some checksum by the wrapper.dll for example...
My point is that the tools for these mods are just too powerfull, to be given away freely. QTim or the one who is making them-Why don't you put some limits in them?
It was a fair game before. Now it's like a 3D shooter...
To be clear:
Anti-Cheating should be inside the MOD tools, inside the wrapper.dll or the patched il2fb.exe.
This way everybody who is using MODs will obey to its anti-cheating logic!
Till now I don't know of other tools of modifying the game.
QTim is rewriting the wrapper. I think he is honest guy and with some pressure on him he may implement such logic inside....

Actually I browsed this forum quite much, and did not find any indication about how to build cheats.

This part of your post is interesting, a "cheat-free mod pack" to be used online. With a method for checking online that the user has just that mod and nothing else.
My squad, for instance, has banned any mod for online use, because of the risk of cheating, but this one can make us change our mind.

Sorry to hear that you can't enjoy the sim anymore. I gave up online play because I found it shallow and repetitive. The notion that very occasionally some spotty albino kid might get an undeserved kill over me didn't really come into it. If I might suggest, with your knowledge of java perhaps you could take a look at designing something like this yourself? If you feel very strongly about it your drive to see a workable anti-cheat application might well lead you to a solution, where others would give it up as too much hard work. With your squadmates there to encourage and assist, the task might not be an onerous one at all.
And if you find a way to limit the number of uber late-war planesets and air quake objectives, I might even return to online play too!

Well, I'm neither native English or Russian speaker. I've never done professional Java programming. It took me half a day. No, I'm not a genius, but since it was so easy for me, it will be easy for the rest. Yes, I'm deeply interested in aviation. Let me say that I could name you the differences between La-5F and La-5FN before the game came out. And now this brilliant game online play is ruined...
Anti-Cheaters MOD can be created by the guy who created the tools for MOD-ing. It won't be so hard for him. I don't think someone will try to "crack" the MOD tools later :)

That would be kind of amusing. I can see it all now: "QTim's anti-cheat mod for his hack has been hacked!"
What makes you think QTim would be any more successful at securing his code than Oleg was?

You are correct. But QTim is the only one I know that has made it till know. Furthermore his tools are widespread and are somekind of a standard MODding tools. QTim always stated that he didn't intend to create the tools for cheating. So may be this is a good way to prove it.
Creating them required probably a lot of work. And I think he wasn't inspired by the possibility of cheating when coding them
I don't think somebody else will try to create new ones from scratch only to be able to cheat.

IMHO Theres a very fine line between "cheating " and "progress". What worries me is the way it shifts when you have a bad mission.

kosmev,
Do you know what difference between man and swine is?
Man eats cabbage when he is hungry and swine eats cabbage every time she sees it.

Kosmev, find one mod that changes the FM or LM in this site and I ;ll applause you.
Unless you think that repaint cockpits and accurate engine sounds can give you an online advantage.

Let me just say that this post is in response to any lurkers from Ubi etc and is not fully directed at the OP
Kosmev let me just say that for all the whining and bleeting about "hacks", I am yet to actaully see one action. And I fly on both arcade and full real servers.
my .2c is that IL2 was in the early stages of a protracted and slow death. What Qtim has done is to squeeze more life out of the game until sometime in the future when BoB is supposedly released. I like historical accuracy however if it means I get to fly birds that I have only read about then I can gladly overlook the B-25 pit for most bombers etc.
So keep going guys with your excellent work guys
If you bothered to look around Kosmev you would have seen just how harsh a line AAA takes with any mention of FM/DM "adjustments" . I even had a thread locked that clearly stated it was just joking RE: equipping the Corsair with sidewinders based on an old AirWolf episode.
If you dont like what you see then don't come here. If you don't want to fly on HL because there is a chance it may be "contaminated" then do so. Extremist puritan members of the Ubizoo have decided only fly in their squads. Which will limit their enjoyment of the game and is to their own detriment. We have to accept what we have. Not everyone is happy but as in any situation everyone needs to just makedo.
Afterall.......This is just a GAME.......if it has become that vitally important to you that it affects your quality of life then you need serious help

Sounds like you're in a squad full of Chicken Littles! Your people need to get out more.

Are you joking? If moderators won't ban me, I can send you a MOD which will turn I-153 into an UFO. It's just one file you need to place into the \files folder.

Sorry, but this simply kills online gameplay. This sim lived 7 years without modding!!!
Now mods are very nive new feature, but they are tradeoff for the fair online gameplay.
No... this is a bad end to an exceptional softawre project like IL-2.
Sorry, it does not deserve such destiny!

That is not the point! I don't blame the site! I simply state that the MODding tools are too powerful!
It's like giving shotguns to kids to play with!

I think I understand where Kosmev is coming from.
What he is stating is that with all the modders here and the genius in everything they do, that some of them could put some effort into creating a tool that allows servers to ensure that everyone is using the same FM and DM parameters, and thus would allow mod users and straight-up 1946 users to coexist in a peaceful state of gaming.
I've read him carefully and no where does he state that any mods here are at the root of online cheating. You guys should read him again and offer apologies I think
- Uther - 08.01.2008
Well this is a modding site so i doubt we will see any anti-mod tools coming from here. But it would be nice if someone did mke one.Servers that do not want the mods should be kept mod free.
