Djibouti Map - Salt Lake Terrain - agracier - 07.06.2009

It's a rainy day and therefore perfect for browsing Google Earth for desert arid regions. I thought to try a basic map of the Djibouti region, which was Vichy controlled during the early WWII years and afterwards had something to do with the Allied invasion of Abyssinia.

So another interesting 'completely forgotten' battlefield area. It's a beautiful landscape, with lots of red, purple and browns all intermingled. One spot that took my fancy, but which i wondered how it would turn out was the salt Asal Lake. The results were far better than I hoped and I thought I'd show some screenshots of the salt lake area.

A further totally unrelated bit of info according to Wiki, but which made me take notice nonetheless is that the original 'Planet of the Apes' was filmed here because of its otherworldly landscape.

OMG! Again!
Dang! wish you were here about 1 year ago, when i started my East Africa map...
It seems a waste of time now
Pretty soon you have covered the whole wide world, except USA east coast, where they fly against German U boats and Caribbean too. Ernest Hemingway did lead a volunteers against Subs with hes yacht from Cuba, so there you go. At least 2 maps more. Ooh, and Iceland would be great too!
Thank you!

I guess Iceland would be fun indeed - but I can't find any SRTM data on Iceland - nor on Norway for that matter ...

A combination of Frank Zappa's "Sheik Yerbouti" with "Shake your bootie" and Djibouti. Wink

(Oh, I hope this doesn't ruin the joke)
