P-40L Warhawk would be nice with that Rolls Royce Merlin engine.

The P-40 F is done by Tesla but he needs some one to make the FM, to skin it and get it in game. But the model is complete. Any FMers interested on the P-40 F out there?

lol, what a noob! "gimme gimme gimme I wantz!"

haha, that was a loooong time ago... (at least proverbially speaking)

Anyway, it's good to hear that someone did actually start on the merlin P-40, I really hope someone can adopt that and get it in-game. I think the P-40 is one of the more-important-but-still-ignored planes in this game.

Gentlemen, this thread is NOT a debate over whether more what-if aircraft should be added into IL2. If you have nothing constructive to say vis the aircraft this thread requests, then please refrain from posting in this thread. If you want your what if aircraft debate, please take it to a separate thread in Spray and Pray.

Thread cleaned.

Stay on topic, people.

Personally, I love the idea of the having a P-40Q-3. It was more maneuverable then the P-51 or the P-47 were. It had much better climb rates than most plane existing including the P-80 and Spitfire XIVe. It still kept the durability of the rest of the P-40 series. In production models, it would have 4x20mm or 6x.50cal guns evening out its firepower. Basically, it would be an all-purpose fighter for the Americans in 1944. I've attached

This one is actually of the XP-40Q-3 that went on to be a civilian racer under the registration of NX300B.

I requested this plane a while ago, but nothing much came of it. The pictures are just to show you guys how beautiful this plane really is. Oh yeah, the P-40F and P-40N would be great to have to. The P-60 series would be nice seeing as it lost out since the USAAF kept changing their requirements. Just as a side note, I find it rather funny that people generally welcome the Luft '46 planes like the He 280B or the He 343, but everyone seems to be up in arms in somebody requests an American '46 type plane. I find that rather funny, anyways... If somebody wants to extend the P-40 series, that would be great. If someone even wanted, they could make the twin engined P-40 too.

Beastly, isn't it...

That looks like the work of a modeller with a good imagination but not much sense of aerodynamics... I'm no aircraft designer, but I can't see that thing flying particularly well - if at all.

Was there actually any plan to build such an aircraft?

Believe it or not, it was actually built and tested by Curtiss.

Consider me astonished, then. How'd she fly?

Horribly. It had wicked lateral stability and landing problems.

Other modifications to the P-40 proved to be very interesting, though. This is the XP-40N with a bubble-canopy.

The canopy was then used on the XP-40Q-2 and XP-40Q-3 and was to be used on the planned P-40Q-CU.

I believe that the addition of whole aircraft is welcome to the game ... minus the P40 of the two engines .. lol

I agree that the P-60 and P-40Q were just prototypes ... but not the war we are only for our amusement Big Grin
