Finnish Curtiss Hawk campaign WIP
#1

Downloading the AAA Unified Installer - which worked without a hitch - and seeing the mod working really made me happy. Wonderful work! Big Grin

As I myself is mainly interested in the exploits of the Finnish Airforce I was of course delighted to see that both the Morane Ms 406 and the Curtiss Hawk has been made flyable. And not in any half-hearted way. They are a joy to fly. I like the Curtiss Hawk a lot: fast, maneuverable and with quite a punch.

It is interesting to note this comparison with the Spitfire (from Wikipedia):

"Like others, the Royal Air Force also displayed considerable interest in the aircraft. Comparison of a borrowed French Hawk 75A-2 with a Supermarine Spitfire Mk I revealed that the Hawk had several advantages over the early variant of the iconic British fighter. The Hawk was found to have lighter controls than the Spitfire at speeds over 300 mph (480 km/h), especially in diving attacks, and was easier to maneuver in a dogfight thanks to the less-sensitive elevator and better all-around visibility. The Hawk was also easier to control on takeoff and landing. Not surprisingly, the Spitfire's superior acceleration and top speed ultimately gave it the advantage of being able to engage and leave combat at will."

Anyway, I have started work on a Finnish Curtiss Hawk Campaign, fokused on the fighting over the Carelian Isthmus in the latter half of 1941. Here are som WIP pics:

I hope to post the campaign later this week, at MT4, at the special section for modded material that has been started there.

And when this one is finished, I will do a MS 406 campaign. Again: super job you guys!

And now the Campaign is finished, and can be downloaded at the Special Section at Mission4Today:

One of the trickiest bits (well, almost) was to figure out that the Curtiss Hawk skins wasn't to be found in the Curtiss Hawk folder, as expected, but in the "P-36A3" folder.

My next task it to do another campaign for another modded aircraft: the MS 406!

how did you get finnish markings right? I used il2-mat-manager for my IL2 1946 but i had to make new settings everytime I want to play il2.

Do you mean in this campaign? I simply use special skins with the historically correct markings. (And you must always remember to switch skins for the aircraft you are flying yourself. But you probably know this already.)

Skins with correct markings comes bundled with the campaign.

MAT-manager needs the ClearCache=0 Setting in the conf.ini as the markings are thrown directl into the cache....maybe that was wrong?

Thanks, I do have ideas for more Finnish campaigns, but it will have to wait for a while, because right now I have just started on a Japanese campaign using delvpiers SUPERB Philippines map, that has been released today.

Don't miss that one!
