Though I myself can see where many/most/if not all would love all aspects of heavy bombing to be available...........It is one of the things as an onliner who primarily flys coops I absolutly loathe.
Not in the regard to the positive possibilities, yet in the regards that to fly a public coop with heavy bombers requires I go in and alter them all to "JUST" AI only. No big deal right? Well sadly it is, as there are 10's of thousands of missions and no matter who is running them more often then not someone even long established players will in short order turn a B29 into a Stuka taking the entire group of formations with them, or B24's into strafers so in the end it obviously "the average player".
So what?......Well, so what in the regard that an entire coop you've just waited a half hour for, took 10 minutes for it to load, another 20 to fly to that point of combat suddenly becomes a rediculous afair all because of one person.......Another hour lost, another mission wrecked becoming arcade, all because some uncaring or unthinking person really doesn't give two hoots about realism, or that other players are involved in the events of the mission too.
Easy enough to resolve, simply don't let those you don't know fly or don't fly coops with heavies if not willing to go through each and every one.................Nope, as coops need warm bodies a select few (single digits) in a 50 plane coop not getting it and we want to include people as online play is about community or we might as well just fly offline. In kind, there are so many coops out there with heavies it again limits play, and going through each mission made over the last 5 years to adjust them simply impractical.
IMLTHO, heavies not being available fit well within the parameters of the simulation's focus. Yet more so, the average online player does not have the discipline it takes to fly heavies as intended many simply wanting to "game the game"........
From an online players standpoint the best mod that could be made regarding heavies would be one where with a flip of a switch, a setting, aircraft that initially were unflyable would remain as such YET still allowed mods as a whole........The heavies aren't the problem, nor the mods that allow them......Simply the average player of which there are many who in MOST cases doesn't consider how their grab for points and to survive though making their own play unrealistic affects absolutly everyone else in a coop........and it only takes one to have an hour of waiting turn the whole thing into a rediculous circus.
Not slamming anyones wants as to the sim........Yet that is the state of affairs I've encountered as to heavies in the sim. At this point, as much as I love having them for varied reasons of late since made flyable have been nothing short of a curse from a "coop player's" standpoint.
The above ability my wish for heavies.
