I have just purchased IL2 Sturmovik 1946 after reading all the reports, only to find that I cannot even install the game properly.
After what appears to be a fault free installation all I get is a quick glimpse of the opening page in what appears to be Russian and then I'm straight back to the desktop.
I am running Vista SP2 with 4 gig of memory, AMD 6400+ CPU and a whole load of spare HD space.
And I have also installed into the default directory.
Any of you guys got any advice? Please!!!!

Problem solved.
Uninstalled the installation and re-installed on the D drive.

Also run IL-2 as administrator. I run all of my games,teamspeak,ventrillo etc... as admin. with vista, It makes it all run without problems.

You might try turning uac off in your user account profile.I coudn't
save to my conf.ini file until I did that.
User accounts in the control panel folder.

yup, that is rather essential and not just for IL2 .... assigning more permissions for user is helpful too ( Control Panel\Administrative Tools ... Local security policy) and make sure that you run installations " as administrator" ( right mouse ... run as administrator )

got Il2 running on Vista64 ultimate without problems ( along with mat manager and other stuff)

BTW, service pack 2 is still beta .... or have i missed final release ?
