How Many Skins?
#1

I've been pruning in my mods folders, as there are just too many mods that I don't seem to be using. Cockpit repaints and such, and with the size they all accumulate to, it slows down loading quite noticeably.

However since I am also a skin nut, having far far too many skins, I was wondering if the number of skins one has does anything to affect performance or loading speed of Il-2?

Would having less skins make for smoother performance? Or for faster staring up?

Im not sure but i think il2 checks the skins when you want to customize

your plane and open the skin slot.

Try to remove the skins (before make backups) and you will see

Nope. The game only accesses the skins when you select a skin. You can have millions and it won't affect the loading time.

I wasn't aiming for a million, but I am at 23 gigs, more or less with 24 000 skins ... maybe I will try for a record after all ...

And you know, even with so many skins, in a mission it seems I can never find the skin that is a perfect fit ... there is always one missing or of the wrong nationality or wrong camo pattern or whatever ... it's one of those things like shoes and handbags I guess ... ha ha

Try adding more ram. It did the trick for me. I am up to 3gb of ram and it runs ok but more would be better.

Jeppers 24,000!

Im not a collecter of all skins, Just what I Like and im only at 4,200 and I could probably dump at least half of them.

Loading skins into the FMB may add to load times im not sure?
