Need some info.

I am looking at creating some skins but I am very new. Someone told me to just edit the skin in paint but after looking at it I realize that is probably not the best method. Is there any info on the site on how to get started? What programs I would need and info on how the basic skin is designed? Thanks in advance.

As you probably wouldn't want to spend a large amount of money on a programme like PhotoShop, you're probably better off getting used to working with GiMP. The Simmers Paint Shop has a tutorial to go with that too:

If you want to start light, get Paint.NET and have a look at other skins. Don't forget to have fun too. Wink

I downloaded Gimp. It is a lot more complex than I thought. Thanks for the info and I have started already. I could use any help that is offered. Hopefully i will have something to show for my work in a couple of weeks, after I get used to the program.

As I said, you could start with Paint.NET. I'm doing the instruments with it. The only thing I sometimes miss, is the option to do "perspective correction", as cockpit pictures sometimes have the details I need but not in the right perspective. For that I switch to GIMP. I can imagine skinning could be done with Paint.NET, as a lot is done with layers.

Have a look at skin template too. They can be opened and worked on with GIMP.
