Trouble with manual install of new aircraft
#1

I have trouble install new aircraft manually, mainly with adding info lines air.ini weapons.ru etc files, do i add them at the end of the file or do i have to add in alphabetical order and which ever way round i do it, often the aircraft does not show. I think it could be the way i add the info via the text editor, I use notepad to do this and generally have no problems but every once an da while I fail and cant work out why. Maybe someone could show me a fail safe way, as i say i think its the way i add the lines into the notepad using TAB and or Space keys. Many thanks in advance for any advice. Jim

I have exactly the same problem as JimC. I followed Goller's advice but I can't seem to be able to save the air.ini file after I've edited it. Anyone Know Why?

Thanks Goller thats very helpful, but what is the best way to make the space in the file, do i use the spacebar or am i supposed to use the TAB key. I use the cusor at the end of the text on the line above where I want to insert and then use the spacebar to move the cusor along until I get to the next line where it makes a space i can copyandpaste into save and exit, but when I go into the game sometimes the new aircraft dont show up. At the moment all I do is add all info lines to the bottom of the notepad and reinstall an aircraft that has an installer of its own, and duing that process the notepad is rearranged in the right order, thats the only way I can get it to work all the time, thanks again Gollar. So I will try using the Enter key to get the line of text in. Cheers JimC

I have instaled AC_3.8 for FSX_0.6 (the newest), AAA_MOD_PACK_v2_7, MOD_Activator_v5_2 and wraper.dll.
BUT I still dont have "air.ini".
Help will be apreciated why i dont have that 'air.ini' nor "/com/maddox/il2/objects/" Folders, I have MODS/STD/ Folders.
Cockpits repaint, new sounds and effects placed in MODS folder working well.
THX in advance

STD folder with all appropriate ini files has been introduced with Spitfire MkI mod so as you have rather old mod base ( mod activator...) you don't have STD folder

my advice would be to install any of latest new plane mods ( auto installer ) and you'll get all files you need .... or install it manually but make sure you copy all needed files /folders and edit ini files properly .

please do consider switching to AAA UI as mod base soon .... much less trouble ahead

Wanted To delete this post after finding this great (The link is inoperative)Idiot Guide Which unfortunately was addressed Nomen Omen to me... 8)
AAA_UI weight to much and since its something like great collection I don't have control over mods which i want to install right?
Now the only question I have and answer on which i didn't find but still searching is.
Do I have to install both SFX_06 and English Sound Mod v0.93 or only one of them is enough and which one is better?
I thought that only FSX_0.6 is enough but lately I've been told that i have to install both of them so i am confused a bit.

....if not able to obtain AAA UI ... i would suggest soundmod 9.03 + wrapper + 4.09b1m + game version switcher (optional) .

you don't want to mix SFX and sound mod .... trust me

available options for mod base :

1 AAA UI

2 Sound mod + wrapper

3 mod activator + SFX + wrapper

I was hoping to find somewhere on site but i couldn't (search give all kind of stuff except the one i need)so i guess i have to ask.
Is there somewhere topic where i can read what does SFX and sound mod9.3 or what difference between them.
I am just curious why 9.3 is more preferable when FSX its suppose to be the latest.

sound mod 9.03 is from what evolved AAA UI sounds and FSX is "sound mod" line by Wassy which doesn't have AC INSTALLER support ( buttons file) after version 6

i believe they differ in prs files and wav name files for certain sounds (engines...guns)

if you know how sounds in game work ( relations between plane data , prs files and wav files) you can use preferable sounds from all of them and make them work just fine ... heck i have Jafa sounds + some custom ones working with AAA UI without problems .
