Request : New DGEN.exe for new maps
#1

Hello ,

Since they are many skilled modders , i would liked to know if it's possible to make a new DGEN for offline campaigns that take into account the new maps (and why not new planes too ) , or perhaps make the new maps work with DCG

Is it possible ? i want to know this , cause i barely use all the new planes and maps since it's not possible to fly campaigns on it

thank you for answer Smile

It is possible to use new planes with current DGen.exe. There are plenty of such campaigns already available at M4T.

The use of newly created modded maps is more delicate, we can only use modded stock maps. An example is available here, with the Normandy map:

Please also look for Boelcke, Juri_js and Ojcar modded DGen campaigns, featuring new planes.

Unfortunately so far DGen.exe does not support completely new maps, such as Thailand or Italy.

I wish you buggers would learn not to phrase every request like you are announcing a new release.

Thanks a lot for answer Vtrelut , i'm downloading your campaign !
So in your opinion it's technically possible to make a new DGEN for all the new stuffs (planes, maps ) , that's good to hear Smile

Pardon me Bee , i thought it was the discussion/request part of the forum , i will change the title Wink

Quite interesting that few people here give a damn about a new DGEN that would benefit a big majority of the community , i see threads created later for single planes generating pages of answers while the public target is tiny , whereas for new DGEN thread , ir seems no one cares while 90% of il-2 flyers are offliners and don't have time to build campaigns after work , a new DGEN would renew the interest offline greatly for many ...

Anyhow i really hope that after some time someone will finally work this , that's a pity otherwise cause that means new maps and planes are of very limited interest for many including myself , apart from a few quick test mission in QMB or mission mate :?

I agree with you, that a new Dgen.exe file that supports the new maps and all new planes would be great, but so far no one has found a way to edit the file. I have tried to do it, but without success.
I think the only way would be a Dgen update by Starshoy, but we haven't heard from him for many years. The only person who might know if there will be a new version of Dgen is probably Ijekio Ulmar. If I am not mistaken, he somehow worked together with Starshoy on the last version of Dgen.exe. Ijekio Ulmar can be found at the Russian Sukhoi forum. Here is the link to his Dgen thread:

Someone who speaks Russian could contact him (unfortunatly I don't speak Russian).

In fact, I'm very interested in a new DGEN.exe, but I have not idea about computers....
The only thing that I can do is to add new planes (and not all planes, because some bugs). Not bad, but not perfect....

Thanks a lot for answers guys , now i understand why it has not been done yet , i didn't know there was a technical problem , let's cross fingers that it will be available one day ( or through a DCG lowengrin update perhaps ? excuse my ignorance , i don't know much about modding)

As far as I know, the main problem is, that Dgen.exe is writen in C++, so we can not just decompile the file to get the source code, that we need to create a new version of Dgen. The only way would be a release of the source code by the author of Dgen, but this will probably not happen.
