IAR 80 A/B/C
#1

If I would have possesed the skills I would have done it myself, but with my current situation I can't. So I'll have to leave it in the hands of skilled modders like you guys. What I'm asking is not very hard at all.
But first you should know this: during WW2, the IAR (Industria Aeronautica Romana) numbered the planes like this: even numbers fighters, odd numbers were either fighter-bombers or bombers. So the in-game IAR 81 A and IAR 81 C are not really enough if someone would like to make a historically accurate mission.

First the IAR 80 A
The only exterior, visual difference between the IAR 80 A and the IAR 81 A is that the 80 A has no bomb rack under the engine (and it look exactly like the IAR 80 allready in game), and unlike the 81 A, the 80 A has 6x7.92 MG's(the MG's are the same type that allready equip the IAR 80, IAR 81 A and 81 C modells.) The position of the 3'rd and 6'th MG should be like this: Take the IAR 81 A 3D model, remove the 13mm guns, fill the empty holes , and install the extra MG's, 1 between the 2 MG that are allready there. The 80A could not carry any bombs because it was a dedicated fighter. I think that the 80 B could have the IAR 81 A FM, because there isn't any major difference in the weight or the performance of the 2 modells. About the cockpits, the IAR 80 A has the same cockpit as the IAR 81 A, because both were sent to the front in 1941, so both had the Telereflex gunsight(the same gunsight that equips the IAR 81 A and 81 C in game).
Second the IAR 80 B
The IAR 80 B is very alike the IAR 81 A. Both planes have the same armament, 4x7.92mm MG and 2x13.2mm Hotckhins heavy MG(the same ones as on the IAR 81 A in game.), and as the Iar 80 A, the 80 B did not have the IAR 81 bomb rack, so it will not be able to carry bombs. Another feature of the IAR 80 B is the ability to carry extra fuel tanks(2 in number, attached on the wing tips). I think the La-5/7 fueltanks can be used in this case.About the cockpits, the IAR 81 cockpit can be put on the IAR 80 B without any design modification. I'm sure that the IAR 80 B should use the IAR 81 A FM, because there isn't any major weight difference between the 80 B and the 81 A(the weight difference should be about 25 KG(55 pounds) because that about how much the bomb rack weights, but this weight loss can be counter-balanced by the addition of the fueltanks)
And the IAR 80 C
The IAR 80 C is just a IAR 81C without the bomb rack.I has the same armament(4x7.92mm and 2x20mm). As other IAR 80, this one doesn't have a bomb rack, and as the 80B, this one has wing mounted fuel tanks(again, la 5/7 fuel tanks could be used). It could use the IAR 81 C FM, as they have similar weaons and similar weights. It can have the IAR 81 A cockpit (with no other modification).
I think this should be it, if you require other details please don't hesitate to ask.

I would like to see this too. In my book, the IAR 80/81 ranks right up there with the Bf 109 and Mc. 205 as great Axis fighters. Personally, I like this scheme from the top gun school of Cocargeaua in 1943. It's an aggressor...

Great idea! Maybe an IAR-8x pack could be made that includes the addition of your proposed new variants plus default skin and graphical upgrades for the existing IARs in IL-2 (a job similar in scope to the Zero and P-40 upgrades under development elsewhere on this site). The IAR-80 cockpit repaint and a set of wheels that are actually rounded could also be bundled with this pack.

My 2 cents,

I'd like to see the later 80 variants, so I can lose that infernal bomb-throwing arm... if I can down five equivalent-period Spits in as many minutes, I consider a plane great. If I can do it without dying, I start to take a genuine interest. Tongue

The IAR 80 is truly an underrated plane - I didn't even know it existed until I got Il-2. Assuming the ingame version isn't seriously overmodelled, it was a real danger in the earlier years of the war (and possibly even the later ones, with a good pilot).

You have great ideas, Ion_Milu! I am going for it! We really need an extra number of I.A.R. 80/81 variants in-game for better historical accuracy!
Good job and keep it that way!

...yeah then go hunting some I-16 Ratas and forget about that plane. Small caliber guns won't cut the mustard in such historical in-game encounters.

Nice plane nevertheless.

...which is really a shame since an early war planes like I-16 were nothing but flying molotov cocktails with some ammunition added. Luckily contemporary bombers like DB-3 burst into flames when you only look at them through the gunsight.
