[MOD REQUEST] Long-range Flying :Faster Time Compression
#1

Hello,

Is it possible to have a more speedy Time Compression than 8X.? On some big maps it takes ages even at 8X.

What about a mod to make it 16X for example?

Unfortunately with the way Il-2 handles mapping and time compression, such a mod is not possible with current computers. You would need a million dollar supercomputer to have enough processing power to do it.

The largest map currently in-game (zipzap's Alpen map) can take up to two hours to cross BUT it is at the technological limit for most systems. The time compression ala Silent Hunter is not possible simply because Il-2 calculates events ingame differently. So when time compression is engaged, whilst most games ignore things like sprites and just work out the location of everything at the later time, IL-2 is still calculating flak bursts, aircraft damage etc and it after 8x acceleration most processors can no longer cope with the excess instructions.

So if you want such long missions, best playing the old B-17 flying fortress game OR find a bomber mod for MSFS

Or how about a MOD that takes you directly to the next waypoint? Unless you like watching the scenary where you are flying over, if you are playing on a map in a campaign and are quite a few missions in, you don't watch the scenary beause you have seen it all before. Consequently, it can be a bit tedious when getting to the main battle

There is a feature in IL2 called "Time skip" ,it will skip you to the next waypoint.
You need to set it up with binding a key to use in the controls section of the game.

Easy

Sometimes timeskip is slower than 8x speed for some reason...

time skip use the same CPU power as 8X........... its just that it's not make graphical calulation, but it simulate evreything in the game, that's why it can take longer with Time skip

Oh yeah, I forgot about time skip. However, it can-as KG64 said-take ages to load.

It sucks hey. I wish it could be like Combat Flight Sim 1, where you press the time skip and it instantly took you to the next waypoint. But as I mentioned, IL-2 has a habit of doing everything in complex ways!

I was discussing this same subject with a friend the other day. It derived from a conversation involving ms-flight simulator and moved to il2 - long missions.

at some point I asked, if one is playing cockpit-off, gauges on screen with tas and radio alt, icons to tell id and distance and those useful arrows that point the enemy before you see it (that's the way we played), what is the point of flying 30min to the target?

When we observed that in our squad, we opted for missions that would be short as it was clear the group enjoyed more the fight, the bullets and the blood than the simulation aspect of il2-1946.

Since now, I only play online - as players are unpredictable when compared to AI - and I prefer that, the only use I make of time compression is when watching the .trks

...and what's is the point of my reply after all? Simply to suggest shorter maps or to get an air start 5min from the target . When this idea floated on our group, the initial reaction was of rejection, we were sacrificing realism... there was so many good maps... and obviously pilots didn't start 5min from target. debating we realized that although missions did not start 5 min from the base we wanted less waiting time before action... realism?? Though thing to defend when one is using icons and flight paths or not seeing the cockpit. It was settled.

After getting as much of fast action as we could some of us moved to full switch and, now, prefer to play online.

Well that's what worked for us. I hope it contributes with someone else.
