Possible to change assigned buttons for MGs??

Im talking mainly about US planes with 50cals. Im not talking about a weapon mod or anything like that.
The P47 has 8 guns. you can set the convergence for the 4 inner guns to one distance and the 4 outer ones to another distance. This gives you a lethal dispersion over a wider distance and most p47 pilots I have spoken to seem to do this. It works since the the 4 outer guns are binded to the "cannon" button(secondary weapon) in the game and the 4 inner ones are binded to the primary weapon button. This also means that you have to press 2 buttons to fire all your eight guns. We all know this however...

My idea is to do this even for the 6 gunned planes such as the p40 and p51. Maybe the 4 inner ones to one button and the 2 outer ones to the "cannon" button, or the other way around. This would give also the p40s and the p51 the chance to have a wider dispersion for its bullets if you could set the convergence for the 4 inner MGs to lets say 200m and the 2 outer ones to lets say 150m. Justl like we do for the p47s.

So this is not a change in weapon modeling or anything like that, just an idea to get a wider spread...

So experts, is this possible????

Yes, this is very much possible, however, yes it is a change in the files that, for stock aircraft cannot be done.

It is, however, quite possible to do for new slot aircraft.

Was firing inner two guns separately from outter four possible in real six shooters a la P-51, P-40, F6F and F4U? AFAIK, it wasn't, but I might be wrong. Setting different convergence for different sets of guns without an option to fire them separately would seem like an ultimate solution in this case.

Hi all:

I'm most familiar with the F4U and if you look up on the top of the instrument panel you'll see a series of toggle switches. Each switch armed a pair of guns from the inner to the outer pairs. Many pilots used the inner four guns when on patrol or escort and kept the outer pair for "insurance" on the way home. So, in short, yes Tiny Tim, this is historically accurate and would be a most welcome addition - even if we have to go so far as to re-release the planes you mentioned as new aircraft in their own slots.

Great days all.

I agree that the ideal thing would be to have some kind of a m

Thanks a lot for claring this up!

So, a question to any/all modders reading this: Similarly to "Toggle engine #1 on/off" keys, would it be possible to add "Toggle 1st pair of machineguns" etc. to commands? Whenever first weapon key would be pressed, only the selected/armed weapons would fire.
