I have tried searching on this site for help - because I've seen it somewhere, but I can't find it!
How do I change a default skin (aircraft)?
I need step-by-step instructions - I did it some time ago but have misplaced my notes.
I'm sure it involved the QMB and one used the various skin files (4 I think) developed by it to install in the "skinmods" folder - I think the QMB created the various size paint schmes that one needed to change the default skin.
Thanks in anticipation!
Yeah I remember that thread to mungee.I can recall part of the process is getting the game running.going into qmb picking the skin you want to use as your default ,then run the mission, then you hit Alt Tab, and that is as far as I can remember.I think you have to go into some folder where the skin for the mission you are flying is kept and copy it and then I don't know the rest.If you remember let us all in on it would ya?Here is something I just found on another thread that takes the process a little further.Just choose a skin that you want to use as default and launch a mission QMB with that skin , you need not fly all over, only to run for a few seconds then:
Just extract the files of the folder
C: IL2/CACHE/BF109 (the version you're interested)
and replace them in the folder
C: IL2/MODS/BF109 (the version you're interested of course) / 3DO/PLANE/SUMMER
BUT FIRST REMEMBER TO MAKE A BACKUP FOLDER OF SUMMER!Here is the whole thread by Jaypack44.OK guys, it's extremely simple... I'm assuming you already have the skinmod installed, so this is just for making new defaults-
start the game, and go to QMB. then, select the plane you want, and set the skin you want to be its default.
Then, alt+tab out of the game
Go to your Il2 game folder, and go to "paintschemes", and then "cache". inside will be a bunch of .mat files and folders. find the folder with the name of the plane you want to change.
open it, and there will be 4 files: "skin1o.tgb, skin1o.tga, skin1p.tga, and skin1q.tga"
copy all 4 files
go to your MODS folder, and find your skinmod folder. open it- go to 3do, then plane, and then find the plane folder you want to change. *note- some planes have more than one folder, with (multi1) or a nationality abbreviation after the plane name. The nationality ones will only change the default skin for that specific country. The (multi1) changes the skin for all other nationality.
Inside each of these folders, there will be any of 3 folders: "summer, desert, and winter"
"summer" changes the skin for european and any other "summer" maps
"desert" changes the skin for pacific and any other "desert" maps
"winter" changes the skin for winter maps
paste the four files from the "cache" folder into whichever folder you want, depending on your preference.
Hope that helps!
