Mods not showing up - Planes especially
#1

I have followed the instructions about how to get set up initially and with some prior help from some one here managed to get it all working.

After doing so in fact I installed the Spitfire mod - version 1 and it showed up in my quick mission list and works normally.

But subsequently all other aircraft mods are not showing up - this is mystifying as they are mainly mods that involve an exe installer - and YES I confirmed that they were pointed at my game directory!

Also I have downloaded some other mods that apparently have to go into the mods folder. Which I have done. Some appear to work - like new smoke trails etc BUT some simply do not including some planes that seem to be installed in this manner - eg the PBY Catalina and the Panther F9. So in short I now have a few mods working as advertised and some that just do not even though I think I have done the right thing - I am a newbie though and most mods unfortunately do not bother with a readme file for some reason so I may be doing the wrong thing HELP please.

PS and incidentally I also confirmed that there is only one containing folder "above" the mod files when I placed it in the mods folder - I am aware that some file compressors create additional ones that can stuff up the directory path in situations like this.

check if you still have correct entry for missing mod plane in your air .ini....Maybe your just overwrite you air.ini file.

OK thanks for that - but no one has ever said anything about air.ini file before

Could someone explain please - or better still point me to a post giving instructions for installing aircraft mods - I have looked but cannot find any.

After thought - shouldn't the exe file installer add whatever entries are needed in this file if that i what is required by the system?

Would someone also tell me where to find the air.ini file please. I cannot see it in the root directory - or any other directly I looked in either.

I thought the Spit Mk.I was already in the U.I.?

New aircraft with an .exe should add their entry to the air.ini, but you may still have to run the latest Aircraft Installer. In any case, there should be information for installing them in the forum thread. If you are required to add anything to the air.ini, it will be specified in the forum topic, or in a text file included with the download.

Your air.ini is located at ...\MODS\STD\com\maddox\il2\objects

Ok each plan you put in your game need correct entry in 3 folder

first ... air.ini located in ...\MODS\STD\com\maddox\il2\objects
second... planes_ru in ...\MODS\STD\i18n
third.... weapons_ru in ...\MODS\STD\i18n

just like this

Add to air.ini:

Fw-190A-7 air.FW_190A7 2 NOINFO g01 SUMMER

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Add to planes_ru

Fw-190A-7 FW-190 A-7, Dec 1943

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Add to weapons_ru :

######################################################################
# Fw-190A-7
######################################################################
Fw-190A-7.default Default
Fw-190A-7.bidon Droptank
Fw-190A-7.allege Minus Outer Cannons
Fw-190A-7.allege+bidon Minus Outer Cannons + Tank
Fw-190A-7.R2 R2 : 2 Mk108
Fw-190A-7.R2+bidon R2 + Droptank
Fw-190A-7.R6 R6 : 2xW.Gr.21
Fw-190A-7.R6+bidon R6 + Droptank
Fw-190A-7.none Empty

You also need the folder of the mod plane and put it in the Mods folder like this ....\MODS\Fw-190A-7\3do......... and most of all the last button file or Aircraft Installer

good luck

Does this mean that the exe installer for each plane does NOT make these entries in the various ini files and they need to be made manually?

If so where on earth do you find the information needed to make these entries?

I had a look in the mods folder at the installed plane and I could not see the info in there.

Where can I find a post on how to do all of this.

Would someone please point me to one - I have not been able to find.

I am no authority on this problem and have plenty a problem of my own. But I have found the "Search" function at the top of the home page very help full at times......I entered " how to install plane mods" and come up with 4 pages of various types of information and some don't apply but maybe some when added up will get you on the road to success.

I hope this helps alittle.

As has been said, planes with .exe installer will make the entries for you, but others won't. Instructions for installing the planes can be found in the forum thread where you downloaded the plane. For example, you said you installed the F9 Panther. That aircraft does NOT come with a .exe installer. Here are the instructions cut and pasted from the F9 Panther download thread:

Quote:INSTALATION

AIRCRAFT:

1) Copy "F9F2 Panther" folder to MODS folder.
2) Add F9F2_Panther air.F9F2 1 NOINFO usa01 SUMMER to the air.ini file.
3) Run A/C Installer (see link above).
4) Fly

FOR THE SHAKING NAPALM TANKS

1) Open Shaking_Napalm_Tank folder.
2) Copy files 56C740E69B785720 and 3753BF9E197ED03E files and paste them on your MODS\F9F2 Panther folder.

FOR THE NORMAL NAPALM TANKS

1) Open Normal_Napalm_Tank folder.
2) Copy files 56C740E69B785720 and 3753BF9E197ED03E files and paste them on your MODS\F9F2 Panther folder.

NOTE1: Know how to do the manual Installation is the first step to do a mod.

Notice that it gives you the line to add to the air.ini (I highlighted that part in orange)
On the other hand, the SpitMk.I, for example, DOES come with a .exe installer, so there is no mentione there of what to add to the air.ini.

You will have to go back to the download thread for each plane you installed, and find the install instructions for each one.

OK thanks all for your help. Its a bit confusing when you are new - the architecture of every sim is vastly different and has its own quirks, so even knowing where to start is hard. I will try the info on the DL page for the aircraft mods.

In the mean time I have installed some sound and effect mods and all I can say is WOW!

I stopped playing IL-2 years ago as I inevitably got a bit bored and also thought some sounds and effects were pretty ordinary - I suppose they had to make the game for the lowest common denominator machine then available. But now this has revitalised the game and I love playing it again. thanks all
