What's at tgb file?
#1

Hi, i downloaded the vp static skin mod, i was wanting to pop some new skins into this. However i came across a file type that i an not sure of the tgb file as opposed to a tga file which i am familiar with from modding in other games. I have PSP 9 the DXT Bmp texture convertor from tga to use in PSP. I tried downloading the Dr Jones thing but could not get a download. I tried using the DXT Bmp to convert the tgb graphic to PSP but it would not come up. So baisicaly.

A. Can I manipulate skins for the static thing with my present set up?

B. What is a tgb file and how does it differ from a tga?

C. Where can i download the programes plugins etc that might be necisary to use these?

All the best

Quote:How to make a new default skin?:
I assume that most IL-2 fans got a large collection of skin already installed,
so finding new defaults wont be a problem.
First, make sure, that in conf.ini parameter "ClearCache=0" is in the [game] section,
then launch the game and run QMB with the choosen skin.
For a summer Bf-109F4 skin you need the following files, which will be
automatically generated once you viewed a skin in the QMB, on the arming screen:

-skin1o.tgb 1024*1024
-skin1o.tga 512*512
-skin1p.tga 256*256
-skin1q.tga 32*32

These are different resolutions of the same skin, being switched when view distance is changed.

The location of generated files will be
"C:/Program Files/Ubisoft/IL-2 Sturmovik 1946/PaintSchemes/Cache/Bf-109F-4"
You must copy these files to
"C:/Program Files/Ubisoft/IL-2 Sturmovik 1946/MODS/SKINMOD/3do/plane/bf-109f-4/summer/"
Launch the game if its not running, check the skin. If the game is running then if you alt+tab back to the game from the desktop after the copy-paste procedure the new default should immediately appear on the arming screen in QMB.

Hi, thanks for that. Just change the file title from tga to tgb? Sounds too simple to be true, which means there will be a lot of cursing and swearing before the ball finaly gets into the back of the net. Still i was expecting new programs and plugins etc but that is obviously a lot simpler. New to this bit you see, don't know where my elbow is in relation to another anatomical part.

A Q for vpmedia, which is the name of the file on your site for the skin pack you mention?

The other Question is it the static.ini that i have to turn to 0? I'm not too sure about that bit. Is there a tutorial about this aspect of the modding thing here?

Also are you restricted to one nation and one multi or can more than one nation be introduced. (It would for my Eastern front scenarios be nice to have the Russians as well as the Brits.)

Sorry to be a pest but where would i find the generic skins in the game for the Spit V and IX's or alternatively can they be downloaded? Trying to put VVS Gaurds Spits in the game to decorate my airfeilds with the same skins as the flying planes.

With thanks again

Hi, thanks you folks for the advice with much as predicted cursing and swearing the new VVS spit is up in the mulit1 slot. I was wondering can slots be provided for other nations. I imagine it is a matter of trying the same with new slots. I've got the forgoten nations mod. Any advice about making default skins for them?

Yours with much apreciated thanks for your time
