$ in front of certain skins ???

I have done a search, but no luck, so my question is:

What does the "$" in front of certain skins mean ???

I think it is just a way of assuring that these skins are at the beginning of a list. When you go to choose a skin other than default, these will appear first if they have a $ at the beginning of the filename. If you have a few hundred skins for one aircraft type, this can save a lot of scrolling and searching.

I often use an exclamation point '!' in front of a filename when i want a directory or a particular file to be first in a listing.

$ in front of the skin name disables markings in Dgen campaigns.

National markings, squadron markings or both ???

National markings and numbers/letters. Squadron emblems are not affected.

I rename my skins all the time by just using "right mouse click, rename". I then go into the DGen/Campaign/Mission and make sure that it matches the new skin name that I just made. I just did not know know what the "$" sign was for on certain skins, now I know and will adjust certain skins accordingly.

Hmm, didn't know about the DGen function of the $, thanks for that little tidbit! I've always just used it so that the skins show up at the top of the list.

Good to know. In other hand, is there a special character to not display squadron emblems ?

As far as I know, it is not possible to disable squadron emblems in Dgen.
