Request/Query - Permanent Wide FOV Change from 90 to 101 Deg
#1

Hi y'all,

I have a 22'' widescreen which I use with Track IR. And after reading about the San's FOV Changer and getting true widescreen
features I got excited. The San's FOV changer mod works but it is in direct conflict with the Track IR Z (Zoom) function... Which I
love and dont want to switch off, if I can help it.

So my question/plea is:

Is there a way to permanently change the IL2 Wide FOV (90 Degrees) to the 101 or 106 Degrees setting you get with the San's FOV mod?
I don't know much about modding or coding but it seems reasonable to assume that if the San's mod can do it, then why can't widescreen
owners change the Widest IL2 FOV to the favoured 101 or 106 degree camera?

The FOV changer is a fantastic mod, but it is fairly unstable. And the only view that I am, and probably most others are interested in, is the wide.
The 6DoF Zoom feature takes care of all the rest. Can anyone help me to find a solution. I can't seem to get hold of Sans.

Thanks
Mat

Hi Mat, have you tried this old trick:

[window]
width=????
height=???
ColourBits=32
DepthBits=24
StencilBits=8
ChangeScreenRes=1
FullScreen=1
DrawIfNotFocused=0
EnableResize=1
EnableClose=1
SaveAspect=0
Use3Renders=0

It'll render a wider view inflight for sure but I know if your track IR thingy will work with it as the speed bar and messages don't go to the edge of the screen like it's still 4:3 but if you hadn't tried it yet you might as well give it a shot.

Thanks Gabo,

Yeah I have the aspect ratio = 0 trick... So no black bars,
It makes it stretch to the sides but it cut off top and bottom vis.

The Sans FOV Mod corrects that so instead of a max wide FOV of 90Degrees
you can get the true widescreen effect of 101 Degrees.

Sadly though you cant move your head around with the Track IR
cause the view automatically defaults back to 4:3 ratio 90 deg max wide.

It seems so simple but I am not a modder so I guess what seems to be a
logical hack to make the IL2 Max wide FOV 101 degrees, may not be so wasy in reality.

I dunno, maybe some mega IT coder boffin could explain to us how it all works.
That would be good.

Check out CirX's POV mods on the SAS sight, made for a number of different planes.

specifically, check out this thread for an example and a clue as to what is required:

Aaaahuh Viking. Now we are starting to get somewhere.
Yes thats is exactly what I was asking. So it seems that
it is on a plane by plane basis.

I found an article byCirx SAS on how to change the FOV in cockpit.
To me its gibberish, but it seems relatively straightforward if you know
modding basics. So if anyone would like to fill me in on how to do this
specific mod. I dont mind putting in the sweat.

Maybe I can do mods for groups of planes that share similar cockpit layouts.

Heres the SAS thread: How to change default Pilot's View Positions in IL2
