Hi all,
When you build a map in IL-2, how do you figure out exactly where to place the cities so that they are were they are supposed to be in real life? I know how to build maps but this is the only thing that is holding me back.
Thanks,

I did it by finding a map close to the same size as the map I was working on and copying it and using it in gimp or photoshop to crate a layer to act as an overlay and then placing the overlayer on the ed_01 map. I then placed a dot on the ED_map where the overlay indicates a city or whatever I wanted is. Then remove the overlay so as to just show the cities dots on the ed_ map. Then by closing in on the dot, in FMB, down to the map location on the texture map and placing the city texture at that location.
If you mean how do you locate the exact locations in real life then you need to find a realy good map( google earth) that is the same size as the map you are working on that allows you to find a landmark like a bend in the river or lake etc. however one must remember that cities grow and land forms change as time goes by. 1940 europe does not look a lot like 2010 europe due to human and intervention population growth through the 50, 60, 70, etc. Some features like roads, bridges, even towns and lakes on todays maps did not exsist where they are shown as they where not built then or have been moved due to large irrigation schemes. I have noticed that some of the IL2 game maps have a few of these error in them but no one seems to mind.
Thanks! I'll try this. I think Google Earth has a timeline function so that you can see images that are from the 40's and so on.
