Help with Windows 7 installation for a newbie
#1

Greetings, all. I'm attempting to install IL2 from the cd onto a new gateway computer running windows 7. I've read several posts about turning off the user account control (done that) and trying to run the program from either a new folder on the desktop or from a different partion on your hard drive....

However, when I insert the cd into the computer it 'spins' for a bit, and then stops. No prompt to install the program, nothing....

When I open the cd to see the files, I can click on 'setup' and it will once again 'spin' for a few seconds and then stop.

I miss flying! If I wanted this level of frustration I would have stayed married to my first wife. Any help for this newbie???

Hello, Mr. Jones, and welcome to All Aircraft Simulations.

1) User Account Control stays ON in my computer - IL-2 installed and runs just fine, including the installation and running of all mods. Turning the User Accont Control OFF will make your computer much more vulnerable to malware and hackers.

2) I have IL-2 as a major folder in the same disk as my operating system. The shorter file path causes IL-2 to load and run slightly better. Did you know that a disk is considered a folder by your operating system? I have IL-2 as a major folder alongside Windows, Users, Program Files, Program Data, and so forth.

You can also run IL-2 as a major folder in another disk just fine, including an external disk drive.

3) Some DVD sets of IL-2 require both disks for installation. If you insert only one or insert the 2nd disk only/first, then you might have an issue. Try a DVD of another title to test your drive.

Thanks for the info! I have one of the old "3-pack" games from Ubisoft; it came with IL2, Pacific Fighters, and Lock-on all in one game set. There is just one disc for IL2, but good idea to try another disc; I'll give Pacific Fighters a shot to see if I can successfully install. I'll try making a folder in the "program files" and see if I can copy the contents there. Thanks; will advise on how it works.....

IL-2 Sturmovik 1946 is what you need to start. Pacific Fighters is, well - dead.
