Loadout explosion
#1

i bet this has probably been asked and i didnt know how to use the search for this question, but is there a mod where if a Bomber or any other plane has unused loadout that if he crashed into the earth or ended up getting hit in the right spot in air his loadout would explode? this would keep the game interesting especially if you happen to be attacking a nuke plane or shooting low level fighters/bombers

Don't all of the AI aircraft drop their loadouts when attacked? In case they don't have time for that I'd love to see such mod.

How about exploding drop tanks if shot?

DT counts as a loadout
i never seen the bomber drop the load when i have attacked until they reached target

Was the feature removed? When I attack bombers they drop the bombs.

The bomb wouldn't explode, before ordanance is dropped the fuse is activated, take Jettisoning stores for example, some bombs were fit with Impact fuses, therefore Jettonising the bomb would cause it to detonate.
For example taking the SC 500 Luftwaffe bomb. It has a thickness of 0.3 on the wall to
3.2 inches in the nose. That is a thickness of 7.62 millimeters and towards the nose 81.28 millimeters. Plus taking into factors like ricochet and the bullets loss of Energy and the fact that the bomb is made from steel, the odds of piercing the bomb are very low and even if it did it have to hit either the fuse or the explosives, at which point the bullet has probably stopped because it ran out of kinetic energy...

Just my 2 cents.

And also like Cnopi said about exploding drop tanks, now that would be good, even tho on Mythbusters it was proven that you cannot ignite the fuel in a fuel tank using bullets, there is simply not enough heat and energy to cause the fuel to ignite, but considering that planes in IL-2 have tracer rounds that burn coloured chemicals as they fly, it technically should be possible to ignite the fuel in the drop tank, which was proved on Mythbusters using tracer and incendiary rounds I think.

We can already light the fuel tanks in wings, so why not the droptanks?

If a bullet could cause a nuclear weapon to explode, not only the guys at Los Alamos wouldn't have had to spend years to discover how to achieve that, no, they would even have had to make all their nukes bullet-proof.

If a bullet or an aircraft's impact could cause their bombs to explode, there wouldn't be that many duds lying around.

I'm with the idea of blowing drop tanks though.
Didn't see the mythbusters stuff, but from a physical point of view, if a piston engine aircraft's drop tank isn't 100% filled, there'll be enough flammable gas inside the drop tank to ignite it even if the bullet isn't I/T type, the sparks from piercing the drop's hull will do (as they do for wing tanks). Theoretically if blowing drop tanks would be modded to the game, the code should check the drop tank's liquid level and blow it only if the level is below let's say 90%.

Best regards - Mike

I think they said it was plausible in right circumstances, but I can be wrong too. It's been a long time since I saw that episode.

but what about a crashing plane? bombs point forward and where do crashes usually happen? like if the crash was great enough and ended sending the bombers bomb forward towards the wall of the inside and exploding, a fighter with bombs would be easier because the bombs are on the outside of the plane

I have seen gun camera footage showing burning drop tanks on German fighters. Probably not too common an occurrence though.

it would be funny if your drop tanks were on fire you released them and right before they hit ground [BOOM]
