Make sure that you are running with 32bit colours...

If you run a Geforce 7xxx, i recommend highly to replace the standard nvidia cooler&fan. It hass not to be that expensive but makes it A LOT quieter and well, cooler Wink .

Having run the safe Nvidia-nTune-overclocking test run (4 hours-run), I now have to profiles, one with the stock settings and one overclocked, and I've set custom rules which enable the overclocked one when the PC is working hard for more than 30 secs, and returning to the stock one during "easy" jobs. Quite fancy this way, If running graphical harmless 2D apps I'm unable to hear my graphic card fan (autocontroled) and have the ~10-15% power plus from overclock when running a game or else.

I suggest the Arctic Cooling sets, they have detailed instructions on how to change the fan without killing the graphic card, have a very good perfomance and are not that expensive (10-20€, depends on graphic card type).
Of course you should have some basic idea how you have to handle sensitive electronic devices (no, you don't need the big hammer or the drill...) and ABSOLUTELY NEVER EVER use brute force when something doesn't fit. Just stop, take a brief look in the instructions and what you have done and search the error. You never need force with electronics. It may fit eventually, but there's a 90% chance you killed your device^^ .

I have kept this guide as a reference ever since it was posted, very handy to have. I suggest you copy and save your config file before you make any changes so you can restore it if it gets screwed up (and do start with small changes then check to see how they affect your game) also get Shturmovik Stab http://mission4today.com/index.php?name ... le&sid=105
handy for making some config changes without going into the config file.

This is a general description of the IL2FB config file. It is to the best of my knowledge but by no means definitive. There are a lot of blank areas where I don

Hello to everyone! I'm a new member to these forums and have been reading all I can and I wish to start modding this game in order to share in the goodies. I'm not new to modding for I've been working on a Star Trek Mod enhancing the graphics and explosions for it. And hopefully I can enhance the graphics and explosions for this.

For starts I read the information on the config.ini and did some more tweaking of my own and got a screen resolution of 1920 X 1200 for wide screen. and maxed out the clarity and distance factors for the water and depth of field. I'm running 2 Geforce 8800 GTX in SLI mode and was able to get this. I'm using a factor of 10 for these.....water=10 pretty much across the board etc. Maybe the level of detail can excede 4 as others have stated, I'll be pushing the limit to see what I can get out of it. If you guys want I can post the file for download so others can try it out.

Thanks Miri's Hot

P.S. the model and water are stock. I have over 2.5 years worth of Skin downloads for IL2 and the planes it has. It's a nice Library...http://www.flying-legends.net/php/downlo...?cat_id=20

Hello Gentlekiller, to answer your question on making the SLI mode work. First you would need another nvidia 7600gs and set it up thru your opperating system. But if your building a new system you might consider a graphical upgrade to more powerful cards. As to "faking" the game out to get the wide screen 1920 X 1200 It's right here from the config. ini walk-through:

Screen resolutions and how to fake it out.

window] this describes how windows displays the game on screen
width=1024 resolution width in pixels set in display properties settings tab in windows
height=768 resolution height in pixels set in display properties settings tab in windows

LCD native resolution was not included as an option if it is bigger than 1600 X 1200

Here's How:

Enter your screen values here and change the SaveAspect=1 to 0

Save and start your game.... (if you later open the IL-2 Setup and close it by clicking OK it will change the resolution to 640x480 16bit, unless you change it to something else via this IL-2 Setup.)

Now here's the important bit............, when you start up the game it will look rather hazy and low quality. If you go into video settings/modes in the game options it will say 800x640 or some other low resolution level, DO NOT CHANGE THESE APPARENTLY LOW QUALITY SETTINGS, when you start the game it WILL be in your glorious high res native resolution. If you then set the conf file to "Read Only" in it's properties after you exit the game, you can stop it changing back every time you go into Set Up.

Words from "Chebawookie"

Hope that helped
