MXY-7 Cockpit problem??
#1

I think the Point of View of the pilot in the MXY-7 is too high (like the cockpit is too high). This is especially apparent when attached to the Betty (your head is inside the plane at gunner waist level). I don't know anything about how these mods are put together and perhaps it is because it is a cockpit from another plane.

Is there an easy way for me to modify the cockpit height and play around with it or is it set? The people who make the mods do an awesome job and if this is something I can do myself without bothering them then I would like to try it.

thanks

I believe when it was attached to the betty it WAS like that...... the pilot climbed in from within the plane

As far as I know (and I may be wrong. In fact, I kinda hope I am) the pilot climbed in before the Ohka was attached to the betty and he was locked in his cockpit from the outside.
I don't know if they used locks, bolts, glue or soldering and I don't want to know.

the position of the Ohka when attached to the betty seem plausible to me, and it matches the external view .

I read that no Japanese kamikaze were ever locked into their cockpits - that supposed fact was just Allied propaganda. All the men were volunteers and it was a great honour to be selected as a kamikaze. You had to be selected because there were more volunteers than needed. Only the 'lucky' ones got to join their ancestors that way.

The business about being locked in was an attempt to make the kamikaze seem slightly less frightening. After all, if a man is locked in he must be scared himself mustn't he? For western minds, the idea of a man being so reconciled to dying that he will cold-bloodedly kill himself in the process of killing his enemies is unnerving. But for the Japanese it was just a logical extension of their warrior creed promoted by the military, based on Shinto religions. Life everlasting and honour amongst their ancestors in paradise - that's why they died so willingly. They were also very young men and subject to peer pressure, which no doubt played a part.

Not all Japanese military men felt self sacrifice was an honourable death - but then, they didn't have to volunteer.

The pilot climbed in while in flight. My problem is that if you look externally the top of the canopy is below the floor of the indentation in the body. However in 1sp person point of view your "head" is above this floor by a decent margin. It's like looking at a truck from the outside and it looks like it can go under a bridge no problem but from inside the cab the bridge looks like it is straight in front of you.

Username your right but what Oilburner is getting at is that the MXY-7 cockpit is a tad high. The Red Dot is the line of view from the cockpit (1st person), the Blue Dot is the line of view from the 3D mans head (3rd person)

The Red dot should be down with the Blue dot, is that right Oilburner?

Agreed Smile

Also, is it possible to get the little hard mount sight showing?

Possible explanation: the difference between 3d-guy's pov and player's pov happens because the 3d guy sits in an Ohka while the player is in a bi1 cockpit.
Nice to hear that the sealing thing was propaganda. It makes sense, btw: Japanese soldiers considered a great honor to be _allowed_ to die for their country, and being taken pow was for them the biggest disgrace immaginable, they wouldn't bail out anyway.

Maybe use the sight of a MG-15 gunner's gun.

omg ! Confusedhock: ive never even seen it attached till now ! when wolf made the mission he never metioned that, probebly didnt want to upset me lol - i can work on this - im thinking about creating a wall around the MXY so that you cant see the inside of the betty - what you think

Sounds awesome!! If you need practice missions let me know...I made an entire pacific campaign (for F6F) and there are about 5 missions with ohka's in them (some in flight, some start on ground).

If you can lower the POV then you won't need a wall (there is already one there) and the sight will show up (it's already there, it's just below the front lip of the canopy).

Starting on the runway in an ohka (in the belly of a betty) is an erie feeling...especially when the pilot cranks the 1st engine you know there is no turning back now!!

Just checking to see if anybody has any news on this? We are using this in a campaign and it's actually pretty neat to fly (as long as you don't think about the real people who actually flew it Cry ).
