Me 109 G-6/U3 (i.e., G-14)
#1

Hi all,

This is my first post here. I've been browsing through the list of mods and I am frankly gobsmacked! I was lured in by the prospect of flat canopies for my Fw 190 A-8, but the other stuff I've seen is amazing!

Anyway, I wanted to know if anybody had done a mod to allow the MG151/20 as the engine gun for the Me 109 G-14 yet, and if so where I could get it.

Great work, people. Keep it up!

cheers,
Ratsack

Ok, I've just read some of the surrounding stuff here. Is this sort of mod considered 'above board' or would it be considered a weapons mod, and therefore verboten? I mean, obviously it would be a mod to a weapon, but it would be a mod to allow a previously-existing weapon on a plane that really had it, AND a downgrade in firepower.

Sorry if I've transgressed a rule here.

cheers,
Ratsack

[EDIT]: would it change the way this request is treated if I asked for an Me 109 G-6/U3, as a new plane?

Welcome aboard, Ratsack!

Creating a new aircraft like this, although it involves weapon and flight model changes, is not "above board". You can find in the downloads section a Spitfire Mk1 with its own unique flight model/weapons.
That being said, there are some members here who digress...

I personally would be in favour of a G6/U3. Its another aircraft thats "AWOL" from this game (along with Ju88C6, Do-17, BV222 etc....)

The funny things about weapon mod is that it only works if the guy u fly againt has it too!

Meaning that if you have the weapon mod with the 0.50s with the API belting it will wotks nicely offline. However if you go online it wont work unless the guy u are firing at has it too!
This makes sense. Think like this:

I fire with my p51 and hit with 20 rounds of 0.50s. Ok my computer registers it has hit with 20 API rounds. However the guy that gets hit, his computer registers 20 NON API rounds as he doesnt have the API modeled. And since the rwo computers dont speak the same language in a way, the mod wont work unless BOTH have it installed!

...

So let me see if I have this straight.

Modifying the performance, damage model or weapons of an existing type = bad.
Making a new type not currently in the plane list of the stock game = OK.

Is that right?

If so, we - sorry, that's the royal 'we', meaning one these excellent modders - could make a new plane, called the Bf 109 G-6/U3, or G-6_44 or something, give it the weapons options and 3D model of the current G-6_Late, and give it the FM of the current G-14. That would amount to a 'new plane', wouldn't it?

Proided it goes into a new aircraft slot made especially for itself, yes. 8)

Given that there are new plane slots being added now, is anybody interested in doing the Mg151 engine gun mod for a new Me 109 G-6/U3? (i.e., Me 109 G-14 FM and DM, Me 109 G-6 weapons options).

Bump!

Would anybody care to try to make an Me 109 G-6/U3 as a new plane with its own slot? This would essentially be the G-14 with an option for the 20 mm MG151 engine gun.

Anybody?

cheers,

Agreed!

Fit it with a Erla hood and an early tail and it will even look like a new 109 8)

I've been thinking lately about the 109G-6(late) as it was and just now wondering if two birds could be killed with one stone. See the late gustav in il2 FM I think is still restricted to 1.35ata and 1475PS take off whereas historically G-6 in late 43 was cleared for 1.42ata or 1550PS at 2km emergency power and is a little quicker and more powerful than early G-6, which is really needed since the appearance of Thunderbolts and Lightnings, plus larger numbers of Mark IX Spits.

Well a G-14 to those specs satisfies that as it seems most late G-6 were retrofitted with MW-50 anyway (i.e. field equipped with an AM motor). So a G-6/U3 of the late type and the AM motor would be just perfect all round. Talk has it this was probably the type Hartmann in fact had switched his G-14 for in 44 (the build quality was poor and it was known they requisitioned some new G-6 airframes intended for a training squadron instead, likely to be fitted with MW-50 at that time). Curiously I get references to Hartmann both in G-10 and K-4 in 45 but I don't know if this is confused aircraft recognition or he did indeed operate both types that year.
