Help Needed - WaterColorATI setting used on nVidea system!
#1

I've always had really dark water, graphics and GUI ever since I installed PF. Back when I had IL2+FB+AEP the graphics were a lot brighter. I've always had a nVidia geforce card (6600 and up). I was looking at the water settings today for the Okinawa map in the following file:

\maps\okinawa\load.ini

[WATER]
Water = water/PacificWater.tga
WaterColorATI = 0.140 0.175 0.230 //WaterColorATI
WaterColorNV = 0.140 0.185 0.268 //WaterColorNV

I thought yea I found a possible solution, so I changed the WaterColorNV to 0 0 0 to see if it would darken the water (since I have a nVidia card). Flew a QMB in Okinawa and no change. Then I restored the WaterColorNV settings and set WaterColorATI to 0 0 0. Sure enough, when I ran the QMB again the water was really dark. Well this is really disturbing, because I don't know what tells IL2 whether to use ATI or nVidia.

I've done everything I know to do:

1) changed the VideoSetupId to 17, then back to 3, 4, then 5 then back to 3.

.... maybe it has something to do with dll's ? Some of beta dll's are intended for ATI and some for NV

(il2_core.dll ....il2_corep4.dll)

... just a thought

edit: btw, i have NV7600GT and in IL2 setup selected custom .... but in conf.ini it says VideoSetupId=3

Um, what if you just put //// in front of the ATI entry? The game seems to want to read everything alphabetically. It probably just loads the first thing it reads. If it finds no ATI entry it should jump to the NV one.

Thanks Bee. I just tried disabling the WaterColorATI, the WaterColorNV parameter has no effect whatsoever. The only parameter the game is looking at is the WaterColorATI. I have tried different orders in the load.ini file also. Sad

Thanks fly_zo. I have experimented with some of the beta DLL's. The ones I have been using are:

il2_core.dll 1360kb, 4/2/2007
il2_corep4.dll 1440kb, 4/2/2007

I'll try to find the originals and retest. Thanks.

RAF_Leigh, post a screenshot of the water? I have hardware shaders enabled. When I change the color settings to 0 0 0, I get really dark water. But this only works for the WaterColorATI parameter. If I disable it, I get a default color, not what I have under the WaterColorNV parameter.

Thanks.

Is there a way to tell what version (ATI or NV) a given DLL is for? Maybe use a DLL viewer?

I just tried what I think is from the 4.07m install:

il2_core.dll 1356kb, 9/28/2006
il2_corep4.dll 1436kb, 9/28/2006

Still no worky...
