Time: 8x Speed
#1

With all the new accurate maps being developed and historical campaigns being released for them (like The Slot and Dixiecapt's VMF-213 series) it seems to me that extremely long flight times are going to be common for many Pacific missions. I love historical campaigns but sometimes I can't spend the time flying the distances. Even at Time: 8x Speed it can take a virtual lifetime to get where you need to go.

Is there any technical reason why the speed 8 multiplier could not be raised to 16, 32 or even 64? If it's possible then can it be done?

well, there is a time skip option already ..... black screen with just a counter in bottom right corner

It usually speeds up time as much as processor allows ( cos game still calculates all variables as if you are flying in 1/1 time mode )

how is that accessed?

Look in the game's "controls" interface and set up a keystroke for it.
It will send you to the next waypoint unless there is a nearby threat.

Doesn't work either if the only waypoint you have left is the landing. It says "Nowhere to skip" then.

I ran into this problem when I started putting a bombing mission together. The flight can easily run to an hour or more, and for a game its a bit wearing on the patience. The alternative was to cut the flight short by design and present only what happened near the target area, but... As I've tested the mission, there have been instances of high drama on the return. One bomber, engine out and still losing power, desperately skipping the waves in a brave but ultimately ill-fated attempt to return to britian, or perhaps the Fw190 that chased the bomber stream all the way to Dover only to be shot down by a very accurate AI rear gunner. If I had deliberately shortened the mission, those events wouldn't have been seen. I suppose at the end of the day you either grin and bear it or play another mission. Its a game, its meant to be fun, and everyone has a limit to the realism they can tolerate.

Well put caldrail. Thank you.

Here it is, copied and pasted from the PF readme.

Time Skip: This feature allows players to quickly transfer between mission waypoints in cases when flying normally would take too long. When using this feature the 3D render is completely turned off, and only the in-game clock is shown in the bottom left corner of your screen. During time skip the game does fully model all normal AI aspects, such as fuel consumption, pathfinding, etc. In other words, all game processes run as usual, only in accelerated time.
Please note that this feature heavily relies on your machine's processing power, and its general speed will depend on your hardware specs and the number of AI aircraft and other objects in the mission.
No key is assigned to this feature by default. You will need to bind one in the Controls section of the game.

Unfortunately, because my computer is so puny, it doesn't run that much faster than the 8x Speed option. As fly_zo said, the screen is blacked out and only shows a counter in the bottom right corner so I think I'll keep using the 8x Speed option so I can see what's going on during the flight.

If 8x is as fast as it can run then maybe I'll keep a good book handy and catch up on some reading during the Pacific missions.

What I do if I have a long single player mission is take off, join up and then put the plane on autopilot and go off and do other things, checking every now and then if all is fine. I am usually alerted to enemy popping up by the radio going haywire....
