squiggling tracers only happen from the point of view of the camera mounted on the shooter.

They can also happen in the swirls that the propeller of the victim causes to the air behind.

I particularly like this pic, the lighting is very good and so is the blend of colour.

From what I've learnt from my mothers late God-father who was a polish pilot who flew during the BoB (shot down the first axis plane of ww2) tracers also got the spiral from the gun barrel which was rifled so the tracer would spiral, although the movement and vibration of the plane on the camera enhanced this further. :wink:
