I'm not against the idea of having artillery with realistic ranges, I'm against the idea of editing the artillery objects in game all ready to achieve this.

Reason being it could mess up missions and campaigns is because units / object could come into range of the guns that where not intended to be and therefore change or effect the out come in a different way then intended by the mission / campaign maker's.

Take the image below, It shows the default range (In Red) and real range (In Blue) of the M2A1 105mm Howitzer.

So say your mission is to protect the Japanese airfield from attacking aircraft and the mission maker has added an artillery barrage in the back ground as eye candy. The mission maker has made shore the artillery is out of range of the airfield so as not to interfere with your objective in any way, but if you have increased the range of the artillery it then brings the airfield into range of the artillery and interfering with your objective. So now not only do you have to put up with enemy aircraft but artillery as well.

Yes understand see your point and agree on that.

But if we make some new artillery i.e. using a boats gunturrent like some mentioned earlyer we could build nice costal fortress Big Grin
And maybe built new ones, so can people choose if they want to use them or not :wink:

i have done a lot of testing over the years with the arty and ship guns, the arty in game is very much under powered, the range of 6 k is only for the heavy arty, it is less for the lighter stuff, also the arty will only fire if it can SEE the target. the ship guns need sorting out also, in a couple of ways. not only does it need the ranges sorted but also the blue on blue effect, for example the ships in a convoy or attack group firing on its own when under low attack.

new slots for these fixes would be fine, but just remember, it all requires a lot of code writing and work from the modders, so please be patient and lets just see if the issues get addressed :wink:

And as i stated in the beginning of this post!!If its not allowed to alter the ai gunnery well then is it possible to make new ones. Its just a question and nothing to get a fit over..
People are making all weird type of plains for the game and noone seems to be against that, but say anything about the gunnery elswise and it seems like some go into a heart attack..
The same problem mentioned by madcat is allready there in form of the ships. but again if done into new slots /new names even on same type guns this would solve the problem i should think.
The existing guns could be used as new objects with realistick ranges with new slots so old map that are built wouldnt get effected.
Also it might be able to add a setting to the guns sometthing like on the AAA all ready where you can adjust from real range to lower range as the maps arent allways made in the same scale.
And for the poll!!well i wanted to know if people where interested in it at all.
This as new cevilian houses and stuff without military use and interess is being built all the time. civilian houses are in my opinion more then enough of all ready and id be happy if any of the modders would rather use time on making military stuff that has a goal to it.
So by looking at the poll modders might see that people are interested in this kind of stuff and therefor might get interested in making some of it..
Or is this something thats not allowed of mentioning at all??
If so then why dont go and play sim city or FSX instead.. im not trying to be mean but if feelt so then im sorry..
I myself would love to make what im talking about but i cant, but i dont see the problem in maybe giving someone an idea and then create something from that.

I do find it odd that when i land my Bf 109 on the airfield at Calais on Canon's Channel map, the ships in Dover harbour start shelling me :roll:

but mostly i wish the ships artillery was as accurate as their AAA....put two BB's at each other at a distance of 1 km. and it takes them ages to get any hits...and then they just go random again.... no matter of finding the correct range and then getting successive shots on target :roll:
