As a lot of the planes we have in IL2, were also built in "reccy" versions, i was wondering if it would be possible for some kind of camera mod to enable pictures to be taken.

I was thinking say, that depressing a camera button, automatically started a fixed length of film to be taken, directly below the aircraft.

Options may include length of film taken, amount of total film available, angle of camera from vertical. also a predetermined zoom level, so that a photo at say, 40,000ft, gave the same definition as a photo at 5,000ft, this again could be variable so that different types and standards of camera could be allowed for.

ideally the photos would be in black and white, and maybe even allow stills to be taken.

The possibilities would be many, from high altitude strategic, to low altitude tactical.

For me it would open up another side to this sim.

i realise some camera viewing mods have been made, so maybe this could be the next step.

what do you think, i have no mod skills myself, but just wanted to get this idea out there.

I was actually thinking about the same thing recently, I also would love to see this. The problems I thought might be an issue though:

The mission objectives for recon in Il2 basically mean you have to fly to a certain waypoint... thats it. I don't know if that could be modified?

How would you be able to make the recon photos useful, say for a campaign? aside from having the equivalent of a screenshot of a target.

They could be useful for a cooperative campaign?

I wonder if in a mission brief, a button or link could be added to view the video track file? In static campaigns, these could be pre-loaded with a campaign package like the cut scene videos. Except, you would actually "watch" the recon footage prior to starting the mission. This would add another element of mission briefing that would be quite cool!
