Mod Request: Ambiant Sounds in Il-2 1946 AND Music Integrati
#1

Hello,

I dream of flying in Il-2 1946 and hear natural/ambiant sounds: the wind , thunder when going through a thunderstorm, birds singing at takeoff, tree sounds..Just like in real life...
Can somebody make my dream come true?

O and alos is it possible to load an MP3 or CD Audio track at IL-2 1946 startup (replacing default Sturmovik sounds) , just like it was possible with old PC games?
For example I would love to fly listening to Classical Music or New Age Music...

Yes, definitely it would be great.

Replacing music in Sturmovik with your own choice of music is so simple even i can do it without anything going wrong.

All music files are contained in the subfolders of ... \IL-2 Sturmovik 1946\samples\Music ...

For instance to replace the intro music, you replace the file ...\IL-2 Sturmovik 1946\samples\Music\Menu\Intro\intro.wav with another .wav file of your choice, renaming your choice of music as 'intro.wav'.

You do need to take care to use the correct subtype of .wav files. Not all types will work.

Wav files should be in mpeg-layer 3 / bit rate 192 kbps / sample rate 44.1 khz / and stereo. These are in any case the settings that work for my choice of music.

Music is a powerful mood setter and in movies for instance can make or break an otherwise good story. The same applies to a game like Sturmovik. Choosing music you like will enhance your gaming experience. Lots of fun.

Its an already available game feature, there are different types of music settings in the sound setup.

For example if you enable Hardware setup/Sound setup/Music/Play takeoff tracks switch then you'll hear C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\IL-2 Sturmovik 1946\samples\Music\Airbase1.wav

You also got folders for Intro, Menu, Crash and Inflight tracks, but I only got takeoff tracks enabled so I dont know how well they work but I would assume if you got everything enabled (using large files) than thats a bit of an impact on your system.

There are plenty of sound files available online:

Here are chatter packs for the inflight music:

Go to

or

for a large selection of ww2 themed music.

Cheers

An advice to all of you who use the InFlight Randomizer - paste radio chatter packs in the corresponding nation InFlightxx folder (for example, "German chatter" pack -> "samples/music/Inflight/InFlightGer/" ) and mix it up with a few authentic 30's and 40's songs recorded from radio transmissions (or old, low quality albums) - I think this creates a whole new level immersion, since you randomly catch radio stations w/ propaganda, ground/pilot chatter etc. on your radio reciever. A few of the other nation's audio files (for example a couple Russian or US .wav chatter files in a German folder) can create the impression that you're catching trasmissions from an enemy radio frequency. Hello fellow pilots (in Sturmovik at least...)

Since a long time I wonder why Maddox or modders have not integrated 3D human animation in Sturmovik ( or at least some human movement)? For example Maintenance Workers during takeoff, or I don't know what about seeing people in the control tower or in barracks or even soldiers on the field?
I guess it's to save FPS rate and loading times...Ok,fine: its a PLANE sim, not a HUMAN sim, but still...I would love to see soldiers moving on the field while doing a low pass or the June 6th 1944 Normandy assault from my plane...

Hello,

I put some wav music for Inflight (converted from an MP3 song), but it only plays the first 10 seconds of the song, and then it loops on itself or it doesn't loop sometimes.
Any idea what's going on?
Is there a size limit for the inflight music and other musics?
I understand one can only use wav

Bye

Hi mavyalex !!!

Your song is a MP3 file. It must be a MP3--->RIFF-----WAV file !!!

To make the conversion, just download CDEx : it is a freeware !!!

Avoir la foi, c'est être plus sûr d'une chose que la raison ne le permet.

Hello,

I used CDex to add the RIFF-WAV header to my MP3 file to play in "Inflight" in IL-2 1946 but it didn't work. I got 128 kbps instead of 192kbps as compared to other default sample sounds in IL-2 1946.
Any idea how to change this 128kbps sound rae to 192 kbps and will it work then?
The total file size (a Muse music) is 3.09 Mo...

Sincerely,
