Cloud reflections in water problem - jittery etc.
#1

Hi all

When i'm flying at medium & high altitudes i'm getting a graphics problem with the clouds over water. What i think is meant to be reflections of the clouds becomes 'stuttery' and is of brownish colour. Here's a pic of it - to be fair the pic doesn't look that bad but the reflections stutter and it's really annoying.
I'm running a AMD X64 5000+ Dual Core at 3.10Ghz with 4GB memory and an Nvidia 260GTX. Other than this i get great graphics with this setup.

Here's my config.ini (graphics section)

[Render_OpenGL]

It would be great if someone knew how to sort it out. It would make the game perfect Smile

Thanks in advance

I've got exactly the same problem with this, I also have a 260 but had the same effect with my old 8600.

You might want to try the various dll's other than stock but it didn't work for me.

I've searched the forums and only found breif mentions of this issue so it is known however i havent found a suggested solution. I think it might be like the rings on water thing- something you've got to put up with. If someone knows different I'd be thrilled !!.

Try dropping your water down to 2 and effects to 1.
That seemed to fix me right up.

Though I fly through the valley of death, I will fear no evil.....
For I am the meanest SOB in the valley!

I shall give that a go when I get back in from Work. I think Im effects 1 already but Water 3.

Question though- isn't Water 2 for ATI cards ?

Thanks anyway.

Use the latest nvidia drivers and it should be okay, last ones were bad.

I'm currently running the latest driver from Nvidia which is 185.85.

Thanks for the advice. The driver is certainly something which springs to mind as the culprit. If it is driver related then I hope Nvidia's next driver solves the problem

Hello,

I'm using a gtx260-216 with 182.5 drivers. Conf.ini settings are same as yours with exception of water=2 , effects=1.

Don't know which dlls you are using, but strongly suggest you try the 13 march 08 versions. I recently experimented with the 5 or so dll variants released between Feb and March 08. The 13/03 were easily superior for my card.

UI 1.1 comes with the Feb 15th versions as I recall - so if you are using the UI you are probably running those. A search here or at M4T should turn up a link for the 13/03 dlls.

Also, experiment with different settings for AA and AF - I've found that sometimes "less is more" - ie sometimes shimmering increases when the settings are maxed out.

Hope this helps
