Cannot change "wood" type in load.ini??
#1

I'm having a new weird problem. When I change the type of "Wood" in my load.ini from the initial type ("Italian_df, etc etc), the map refuses to load.

I've checked path, spelling, etc and everything seems okay. I've tried 3 different new types of wood, but nothing loads and then when I go back to the original, all is fine again.

Am I missing something?

Sometimes you may not have the appropriate texture files for these types of wood installed.

I surmise that they often reside in sfs files and are therefore sort of an illusory thing. You have to write a path to a map you may or may not have correctly installed.

I've found it is best to download all and any types of wood textures that you can find, and to then actually and physically install them to your forest textures directory:

...MODS/mapmods/maps/_Tex/Forest/summer/....

Perhaps by installing all woods textures here you will inflate the size of your texture directory, but it's worth the assurance that your maps will work and that you know how to assign woods textures without any hassle.

Here is a good download for a number of woods textures:

I wish it was that simple!

2 of the wood types that I tried out were in my mods/ directory for woods. And it still didn't work.

I noticed the little pop-up trees along the shore suddenly started appearing for me again last night after a few months when they didn't work. So maybe that's involved somehow.

The error message on my map screen said that they map couldn't load the standard "trees3.tga" tex. Also kept warning me that my vidcard couldn't support "perfect" landscapes.

Not sure that helps figure things out.

How about posting what doesn't work on the woods textures?
