CirxTIPS: How to customize and organize your air.ini
#16

Just for the info of others, cause this might happen to anyone, the reason Spookyguy's air.ini crashed his game at 60%, is because in one of his divisions he used

* air.A6M2 2 ja01 DESERT
********************JETS AND ROCKETS air.A6M2 2 ja01 DESERT
**************************************** air.A6M2 2 ja01 DESERT
* air.A6M2 2 ja01 DESERT

The problem is the phrase "jets and rockets" With a space between the words, IL2's engine sees the next word as the next data entry. You have to either use ONE word, or join your words with a _.

So, a working Phraze would probably be

* air.A6M2 2 ja01 DESERT
********************JETS_AND_ROCKETS air.A6M2 2 ja01 DESERT
**************************************** air.A6M2 2 ja01 DESERT
* air.A6M2 2 ja01 DESERT

I should have mentioned this. It took me as few minutes staring at his air.ini for it to click :lol: So if you experience the same, check for this.

...I probably should also mention that you might want to move the Heading Left, as a long Phrase like that wont fit in the QMB window...

Anyways, thanx for letting me help Spooky, it actually fun hunting down these bugs.

describe for me the dpth of those plane's folders inside your mods folder.

eg

\IL-2 Sturmovik 1946\MODS\NPLA MiG15\3do\cockpit\MiG-9

or

IL-2 Sturmovik 1946\MODS\NPLA XP-86 Sabre v1.02\3DO\Plane\XP-86\summer

any path will do. I want to know how deep the 3do file lies.

Then paste here the lines you are adding to your air ini that crashes the game.

And be clear pls, your game works without the lines of these 2 planes?

Then, are there your first manual installs?

and, do you have the latest buttons?

Also, 60% crash is not (unless you make spelling mistake) always indicative of airini probs, it indicated missing or corrupted file references.

read this:

and

i realy hope the new mods will find these tips threads and sticky them. Smile not that it always helps...I swear to god, 2 weeks ago a guy emailed me with

Quote:"I installed the modactivator exacltly like you said, I installed all the steps, except the english language fix, since I an fluent in english. Now everything is in Russian!!! Where did I go wrong??"

Well, the lines look ok. If you have made sure you have the latest buttons AND there is only 1 buttons file present, AND the game works when the two lines are not in the air ini then

1) add the mines one at a time and see if one works
2) the problem is with the folder you put in your mods folder. It is corrupted, inclomplete, or put in in the wrong depth.

Sorry, I meant "lines".

If your folders in the mods folder are in perfect order, since you, amasingly, having skipped the class on 3do filedepth, can still tell if all the hashed classfiles are there and in good order by just looking ,and, like you say, the lines in air.ini are all good, and the buttons file is perfect as you said,and you have read all the articles and troubleshooters like you said, so you are sure there is not another buttons, and that yours is the right buttons for you, and you are so sure its is both of them together that is causing this that you did not even try to answer that, or bothered to anwer any of my initial questions, then dude, thats great news! This must all be in your imagination, cause then there is obviously nothing wrong with the game.

another question/ problem:

I went into air.ini and modified the name of all the japanese planes to include their allied codename like so:

A5M4_Claude air.A5M4 2 ja01 DESERT
A6M2_Zero air.A6M2 2 ja01 DESERT
A6M2-21_Zero air.A6M2_21 2 NOINFO ja01 DESERT
A6M2-N_Rufe air.A6M2N 2 ja01 DESERT
A6M3_Zero air.A6M3 2 NOINFO ja01 DESERT
A6M5_Zero air.A6M5 2 NOINFO ja01 DESERT
A6M5a_Zero air.A6M5A 2 ja01 DESERT
A6M5b_Zero air.A6M5B 2 NOINFO ja01 DESERT

now when i go to the loadout menu for the planes whose names i modifed, the weapons lists are screwed up and dont have the full or correct names for the different loadouts. when i deleted the modifications, the loadout lists went back to normal. any ideas?

yes, this is fortunately a very simple error and fix.

You need to first change the names you edited back to their originals, so it works again.
then yuo need to go find the document called

plane_ru.properties

You should be familiar with it if you have done a manual install before. In any event, you can find it in Mods/std/i18n
and you can edit it with wordpad or notepad.

In plane_ru, you will find almost every plane listed, and next to it, the name it is called in game (in QMB).

fore xample

Bf-109G-2 Bf-109G-2, 1942

This is where you change the name at the second entry, and you will notice that the air.ini entry is not realy the name the game uses to show you, it uses that name for reference, like to loadoutnames.

Rename files? Please explain what you did. It sounds interesting, and others could learn too.
