I have only seen these markings on the restored Morane (Did you see it fly by the way ? Did you hear that sound ? Almost sounds like its weeping...) and I do not recall ever seeing them on color plates or pictures. Might be that they were overpainted by the camo paint in 1938 though...

Sorry those signs don't appear in any French MS 406 that's historical.
But Germany captured many of them after french defeat, and used some of them as trainers, while others were handed other to other countries like Finland, Croatia, etc
These signs are German, they are used to show fuel indice to be used on the plane, and we can see it on all German planes used throughout the war.
To conclude they are totaly innacurate on a french plane, may be on a Finland plane, or Croat this is to be checked
I agree this restored AC should not have these signs.
I read so many books about french AC in 1940 ,and never saw such signs on old pictures and colour profiles.
Swiss AF used also this plane, and for example the one preserved in Paris Air museum is a Swiss bild Saurer version.
I think these signs were also used on Swiss planes.
I forgot the most important.
French AF use mainly MS 406; only very few MS 410 (improved version) flew before the end of campaign and probably not saw any action.
The difference between the two is the exhaust pipes and the fixed cooler unstead of the 406 mobile one.
In the picture it is a MS 410, more likely the Swiss Saurer version (looks like the 410).
Also the mistake is that Indian Head of GCII/5 should not be on this plane, because this formation was using Curtiss H 75 and not the MS 406 during 1939-1940 period!
